I've had a game where me and a friend of mine got in with a spirit, as the game progressed he said "the dawight is a troll" I look over and the dawight keeps saving my friend off the hook and spirit keeps knocking him down with the dawight repeating it till his death.

If its not already, the "3 hook rescue" daily ritual should only count safe hook rescues like everything else. This is exactly why its like that in rift and for the We Are Gonna Live Forever perk.
