Why do people 99 gates
I don't understand why people do it. It's a horrible tactic and it's made me lose so many games

The egc activates when the gate opens.

Yeah, the timer on top of the screen when you open one of the exit gates.

They do it to avoid the EGC timer and Bloodwarden. Bloodwarden can be particularly nasty when it goes off.

It's not a terrible tactic. It's more frustrating when someone opens the gate right after someone gets hooked, the killer will likely camp the survivor and you are now on a timer to unhook them, escape and hope the killer doesnt have noed.
99-ing the gates gives you time to make sure everyone will escape, you just run to the door touch it and leave, without having to worry about the timer (which isn't really usually a problem, but some times it could be)

nice bait bud

It's a nice counter to NOED for one, and Bloodwarden. Having a gate 99 let's you basically get a survivor free, then boom, doors open and we can get out. Otherwise, we get a campy killer who must have that kill because 'reasons'

As killer it makes you lose many games, you're right.

Not really sure how its a counter to NOED. NOED still activates even if the gates are not open. Certainly is a good counter to Bloodwarden though.

i open it to force the other survivors to leave so we dont go from 3 escape to 3 dead 1 escape.

I think they mean there's more time to cleanse NOED as the EGT won't have started yet, rather than an actual counter.

I could see that. I see NOED activate, I open and leave. I not taking the chance personally.

I only 99 the gate if someone is hooked or about to get hooked. I do think it's better just to open the gate though as often people will distract the killer not knowing a gate is 99 and end up dying for no reason.

Same here. That way Bloodwarden wont activate. NOED though, sorry, if I see that activate, I am gone. Not going to worry about unhooks or cleansing totems. At that point, I dont care.
As a killer, I will just open the gate myself if I am running Bloodwarden.

I'm one of those people who doesn't really mind if I die (to a certain extent), I'll happily die for another survivor as long as they weren't toxic af. So I'll at least try to look for Noed, especially if I have Small Game.
But if I can tell it's going to be difficult and we'll all end up dying anyway, I won't bother.

Not to trigger bloodwarden which is one of the best come back killer perks

How impactful would it be if the meter would regress when not being activated?
I know a killer could just open it, but that might not be the best choice in every situation.

It's bs just like gen tapping. They need to fix it. It should go to 90, and either you open it, or it goes back to 90. Same w gen tapping. it should take at least 3 secs of repair before a gen restarts. Kicking gens does nothing against gen tappers unless you have pop

They do it to ignore the EGC countdown, basically making it useless. Tbh there needs to be a decay on door progress if left alone long enough, but that will never happy so don't get your hopes up.

Egc,blood warden, noed. If you wanna be altruistic then you 99 gates until you are certain that everyone is good and then you pop it and leave
