Why do you care so much about it?
Hello How are you? I hope everyone has a nice evening/day. I want to ask something, I play both sides but mostly survivors and whether there are things that of course bother me, I try to have fun because it is a game, don't missunderstand me, I don't try to be disrespectful so my apologies beforehand but... Why do you care so much in pipping at red ranks?
Using arguments like "playing fair seems not to be enough for the ranking system, as if you do, you will likely depip". Why do you need to be red rank every season? I trully mean my question, there are no rewards and it's well known that red ranks matches are sweaty, as a survivor you see all the meta perks, and as a killer you see every meta perk as well.
So Why do you care so much in pipping or being at rank one every season, and try so hard to "no depip"? Just to use it in your argument? "I am a red rank player and I have hundreds of hours so I know what this game needs" or something like this? It's not healthy, I mean, seriously, for your own sake, chill down and play the game for fun.
Again I don't pretend to be rude or disrespectful, it's a question and giving some advice that a game objetive is having fun (even competitive ones) and if you feel pressured or you're not enjoying then Why playing at all? You will likely get stressed and that's the opposite objetive that a game wants.

Because part of what makes video games fun is working towards something.

No one cares for pipping as survivor. You just pip lol
As for Killer it really doesnt matter anymore. You get red ranks even if you play green as killer. But its challenging to stay at R1 every season. You have the opportunity to not play only against potatoe bots.
Tbh I dont know how you can enjoy the game otherwise than playing sweaty as killer. I dont have fun chasing 3 people and the last gen pops. Great feeling to play chill killer and get stomped xD
As you may imagine, if you play a game you want to get better. If you get better you want to face others on your level. Why would you not want to pip in red ranks?

I play for fun and if i end up at rank one so be it. Speaking for just me i play both sides and around ranks 1-5
If i pip cool if not not a big deal.

I could care less about rank as long as the game itself is fun.

This is a very healthy way of thinking, I applaud you for it.
If you have to try really hard and stress yourself out in order to pip, perhaps you're better off staying at the lower ranks, practice and let yourself rank up naturally. With that said, there are a few reasons why I think people want to rank up and maybe take this a bit more seriously than they should.
- there is a sense of pride and bragging rights associated with being able to say that you play the game at the highest level every season
- Ranking up means the game telling you that you won and that you're doing well. Competitive people don't like being told that they lost or that they tied with their opponent, thus they want to pip every game.
- For survivors specifically lower ranks in solo queue are really tough. They get slaughtered most of the time, because of how inefficient inexperienced people are. Even if you're a competent runner it's quite disheartening to realise that even though you ran the killer for a very long time, nothing got done, because your teammates got off the gens and hid every time they heard a heartbeat. It's not like can't still have fun, but it get's a bit demotivating when you realise that despite your best efforts you still have a very low chance of winning.

Accomplishment, really.

Human beings are naturally competitive in some way (usually) and always strive to better themselves through their experiences. What happened? Why did this happen? How can I change my approach? Is there anything I could've done to mitigate or counter this thing that is giving me issues? But more importantly, CAN I BE THE VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS?
Reigning in that innate desire to just be better or the best is quite difficult, even if the ultimate goal is pointless, it's the journey that matters most.

I can't agree with you.

It's simply a challenge and a number people use to measure skill and experience, that's why see killers posting screenshots of their rank to prove a point.
The truth is the ranking system is flawed and doesn't work very with certain killers and as someone who has the habit of playing lmost every killer, except nurse and huntress (I don't have a main), I have stopped caring that much about rank.

Its a sense of competition, something games don't give often enough. And on top of that piping can be used as a way to determine balance at high ranks.
For example as killer getting a 4k early into the match because everyone was out of place at just the right moment and you played all the right mind games, but didn't pip.

Not going to lie, I really don't care about my rank. I don't like red ranks, I prefer high green/mid purple. Why? Because I can use weird meme builds. I run into some survivors using meme builds and then we just kind of mess around.
I'd probably care more if there was an actual leader board. Saying how well x player does as x killer. Why? Because then that actually feels like something. You could be an amazing killer or survivor but probably wouldn't get a whole lot of recognition if you're not a well known youtuber or streamer

I care more about de-pipping right now because it's close to the end of the season and I'm in purple ranks dangerously close to red. I do not want to start the next season at 5. I never want to be in red ranks again. It is completely unfun for solo players like myself. I like to try my hardest too, but not at the expense of having fun. I switch my perks around and try fun combinations and alternate characters. Obviously, this game can be monotonous at times so it can be fun to randomly choose perks and characters. It sucks because lately I've been getting red rank killers and with their ultra rare add-ons they're too OP for solo survivors. I'm more of a stealth player and they're usually too smart to lose in a chase & once I'm found and they see I'm not an expert looper then bam I'm tunneled out of the game. I don't think I've ever had a fun match in red ranks. I've gotten nasty messages from red rank survivors for my gameplay, choice of perks, etc. I try my best every match, but sorry I'm not a super tryhard.

It seems I expresed myself poorly. My apologies for that. Every human being is competitive by nature, but the main purpose of a game is having fun, obviously we can do both but some poeple get too sweaty about being competitive when the nature of the game is not. So,Why complaining about not having enough "strong" perks? "Because If some perks are nerfed I need to sweat if I want a 4K". But. Weren't you the only who decided to inmerse in a competitive playstyle in the first place? Meaning you wanted to sweat in the first place (personal fullfilment), the game core or the game design wasn't that so Why blaming or, worse then, talking bad to another people who doesn't share your point of view?
I simply mean this. if you want for a personal fullfilment, 4K's in every game then it's ok, but don't blame BHVR about something you wanted to achieve and no one forced you to achieve.
