I’m Doing a Ruin Test Before The Patch Is Out
Whether you love or hate Ruin as a killer (most likely love) or survivor (most likely hate), you’ve acknowledged it’s power as a ‘potentially’ powerful early game perk.
I honestly think Ruin needed a change, BUT I also am concerned about generators themselves, especially against certain killers.
I’m doing a test with ALL the killers to see how each of them do WITHOUT using the perk RUIN and how they do WITH RUIN (10 games each).
Across 20 games with EACH killer, this is the data I will be keeping track of:
- The perks I used
- The perks the survivors used
- The ranks of survivors
- The maps
- Add ons I used
- Items/offerings survivors used
- How many kills I got/ How many survivors escaped
- How fast the match ends. (I’ll have various of points to make out. Like if it was because I killed them quick, or if they did the gens quick).
I want to get an understanding of how fast games will go without Ruin.
Some conditions for me:
- I will not be using NOED. I want the best data possible and I feel NOED might hurt that.
- No Add ons above green rarity. (Exception: No instasaw on Billy).
- No Offerings that aren’t bloodpoints.
- I won’t face camp or anything boring that’s similar (not like I do that anyways).
I will slug if I NEED to. I might add that into the data.
Notes-
- This will be played at Rank 1.
- My projections on how much time it will take to complete this is about 65-70 hours.
- I plan to have this out sometime between January 18th -20th.
- If a survivor DCs early into the match, I’ll keep track of that game, but redo another.
(LET ME KNOW IF I’M FORGETTING SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO KEEP TRACK OF OR IF I SHOULD ADD ANY OTHER CONDITIONS AS I WILL BE STARTING THIS TONIGHT, OR TOMORROW MORNING)
EDIT: forgot to actually state that this is a test based on not using Ruin.
EDIT 2: Forgot about the other part in playing WITH Ruin to get an actual understanding. I’ve made the decision to shorten them to each 10 games with Ruin and 10 games Without Ruin, per killer.

Really hard to test right now with how messed up the survivor pipping and matchmaking is. Puts lots of people in red rank games that shouldn't be. Kinda ruins the validity.

You're forgeting the control group.
Basically, doing the same with ruin to compare.

Oh right! Are you saying you’re going to be the part who does the games WITH Ruin? If so, I’d greatly appreciate it.
EDIT: Nope. After re reading it, that’s not what you were saying lol. It’s for the best though for me to just do it on my own anyways for the best results.

I’ll try to calculate those who I don’t think are up to par. I do feel that gens will fly regardless in a lot of games.

Yeah probably. The survivors don't even have to be good if they prioritize doing gens quickly.

How does using Corrupt Intervention defeat the purpose if the experiment is about Ruin?
How will your data mean anything if you have no Ruin games to compare it to?

Corrupt is similar to Ruin as in early game pressure. Don’t feel like it’s right for this experiment.
Weck already made that point. I’ll probably cut down the “without Ruin” games to 10 and do the same with “with Ruin.

I know but again, the experiment's about Ruin. Feels weird to ignore a potential alternative, like you don't even wanna acknowledge Corrupt exists.

The point is "ruin vs no ruin" not "ruin vs alternatives"

Corrupt is still 'no ruin' lol.
If you wanted to go full-on, you'd do x games with only 1 perk - Ruin - and x games with no perks.

Eh... I’ll remove it as a condition. But not sure if I’ll use it. Like I said I have all my perks tracked, so you’ll know if I ran it at all. Thank you for the feedback.

I think maybe if possible you should also try to test ruin 2.0 on ptb as well would be interesting to see the changes

20 games might be way too less for a test. Would be better if more people join that and add their 20 games result, addin to the data "ranks played as and against". For better data everyone participating should be the same rank color as killer I guess.

I wish I could do more, but 20 games PER killer is quite a bit. That’s 360 games. And I am keeping track of rank.

I know. Doing statistics is never easy for one single person. A statistically meaningful result would be around 1000 or higher. The higher it is, the less chances to have a result set of samples that are far left or far right of the gauss bell. That's why I said others should join, just to get a better idea of the deviation.
