New ruin, let's be real

The new ruin isn't that terrible. Playing games outside of PTB, ruin is usually taken out before the first gen. You can chase one person, two people could be tapping a gen and the last person could find ruin and break it before you get your first down.

Pros about new ruin: You could use surveillance, sure. But remember survivor mentality, they don't really like to leave a gen unfinished. So, if you know which gens are regressing, you can chase people off of those for a few seconds (depending on the amount of progress) and then go back and return.

Unnerving presence is going to be better. Some survivors still have a hard time hitting skill checks with the decrease in the skill checks. And 60% decrease is a nice number chunk. If one survivor is running, another hears your TR, often times they may forget to look at the skill check and do more regression to the generator.

Surge might actually be more helpful than surveillance. Think about it, you need ruin to really help with surveillance. So, if ruin is taken out, you'll need to start kicking gens again. However, if you use surge and chase survivors closer to gens, it's an extra 8% regression. That might force someone off the gen. If you can down a survivor while run is up while someone is working on a gen, it gives a position away. Just chase them off for a bit and then hook the other survivor, easy profit.

The cons about new ruin are fairly simple.

It's a hex totem. Survivors may decide to cleanse it right away, however that still happens with old ruin. The best play strategy around that is to ignore your ruin. Don't keep going over to see if it's still up, you're telling them where it is.

In all honesty, the new totem isn't effecting me as much as I originally thought. I play normally even when it's destroyed first 30 seconds of the game. So, what's the point of getting mad over it?

Also, no I'm not white knighting the change or playing favorites with survivors. It's a matter of personal opinion. I've played games with Freddy without using ruin. Using Pop, BBQ, Brutal and save the best for last. Swing chains or jump rope with nancy's master piece. Still 4ks within the first or second gen being popped. I'm sure you can almost do it with most killers. If you run a killer that's a set up, use corrupt instead.

Here's what I hate about new Ruin, it makes the strongest killers even better but hurts the weakest of the bunch. Freddy/Billy mains literally could care less that ruin is nerfed since they simply didn't need it to help mitigate any lack of early game pressure and since they can pressure people off gens so easy they get much more use of it than the killers I'm about to name., Bubba, Legion, and Clown on the other hand will by far suffer the most from this seeing as they have no mobility tools to speak of and their chase potential isn't even all that or only helps during chase and doing nothing else.

And that imo really comes down to poor map design. Unfortunately, I don't think there's many middle ground maps that're fairly balanced out to both sides. And it's something the devs really should address.

I'm not positive about the new changes. I feel like they make Ruin useless for killers with low map pressure, who are the ones who need it the most, but it can actually become really powerful on killers with high map pressure, who ironically didn't need old ruin as much.

Surge, unfortunately, is really bad. It's the worse new Ruin. It has limited range, procs only on basic hits and has a cooldown. Smart survivors try to loop far from the gens being worked. So, killers with instadown who catch survivors near a gen, won't be able to proc Surge using their ability to down.

Unfortunately, even with current ruin they still suffer. Hopefully they'll rework them to make them better to accommodate for being weaker/slower killers. New doctor is pretty nice and he was one of the weaker killers. I know a lot of people claimed this to be a nerf but I see it more as a buff. And I'm sure Clown is going to be the next one they look at.
