Red, Purple, Green, Yellow and Brown ranks REDUCED to ONLY 3 TIERS
Hi all,
here is my idea for a new ranking system.
Red, Purple, Green, Yellow and Brown ranks have been abolished and pipping no longer exists! By reducing the ranking system down to 3 tiers with a graduation program, it should make both the ranking system simpler but also provide faster match making. I have also integrated common and competitive play into this 3 tier system. Please check below! @Peanits@not_Queen@PatBrutal
THREE tiers for ranking:
CUTS & SCRATCHES (low level, undergraduates, SWF)
- New players to the game start here
- A checklist of tasks for both killer and survivor must be completed in order to graduate and move into the next tier BATTERED & BRUISED
- Survivor tasks include completing a fixed amount of matches, heals, gens, unhooks and escapes, + special tasks
- Killer tasks include completing a fixed amount of matches, hooks, chases, pallet destructions, gen kicks, + special tasks
- Graduation is COMPULSORY and will happen once all tasks have been completed or once a fixed amount of matches have been played (in order to counter graduation dodgers)
- SWF in CUTS & SCRATCHES is restricted only to players of this tier. Players in CUTS & SCRATCHES cannot SWF with players from another tier - they must graduate first!
BATTERED & BRUISED (mid level+, graduates, SWF)
- Graduates from CUTS & SCRATCHES are in this tier
- Players can graduate here but tasks must be completed, similar to above but harder
- Once graduated, players from this tier can choose between playing here OR in the next tier BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS
- SWF in BATTERED & BRUISED is allowed but cannot include players from CUTS & SCRATCHES because they must graduate!
BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS (competitive with generous bonuses, NO SWF)
- Competitive for players who have graduated BATTERED & BRUISED
- Players completing matches in this tier will receive generous bonuses for blood points and shards
- No SWF is allowed in this tier!
Ideally once a player graduates from CUTS & SCRATCHES, they should be able to play the game reasonably well with space to improve. BATTERED & BRUISED provides normal play for many people while BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS would have the concentrated solo survivors and killers working hard to be successful to earn extra blood points and shards.
Please everyone make suggestions and share your criticisms! Thanks
Greetz

Where is the tier for swaggy ghost face aka me I need my own tier because I'm the most vibrant killer out there

Communicate your vibrancy through a cosplay? :)

Here is a picture of me with my best girl

What killer would want to play a swf group? They’d all move to top tier and stay there. That said, it’s a fun idea.
4 -
I feel like you would have a lot of Smurfs and deranking on purpose then. Not many survivors are going to want to not even have the option to swf
3 -
They wouldn't be able to 'graduate' swf survivors are the first to die in solo
0 -
At mid tier BATTERED & BRUISED it will be like now with a combination of solos, solo + SWF, SWF without the killer knowing who is what.
I cant imagine all killers trying to pass the graduation to get to BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS tier just to avoid a SWF. Also, there are many good solo survivors who can escape a killer.
Anyway, what would you suggest alternatively?

Once you make it out of CUTS & SCRATCHES you can't go back to it.
The other two tiers BATTERED & BRUISED and BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS can be played when the player chooses, as long as they already graduated from BATTERED & BRUISED

I would suggest keeping the colors but make the ranks within the colors 10-1... and give BP and/or shards as a reward to rank up... and getting Red:1 would reward a cosmetic like a Red:1 charm or something like that
To me it'll give player more feedback in regards to where they are skill wise and matchmaking wouldn't be as bad (imo)
Brown: 10-1
Yellow: 10-1
Green: 10-1
Purple: 10-1
Red: 10-1

all these people trying to prevent me from playing with my friends. My **f r i e n d s ** . You do know we are trying to have fun, right?

In my system you can still play with your friends though.
Also, Kill Your Friends is fun to play ;)
Do you have any alternative suggestions?

But that is my issue - we currently have 5 ranking groups - does the player base need to be divided into 5 ranking groups? To me 5 is too many and it should be simplified/reduced.
Also for many players, once they play the game for a while and learn how it works, they fluctuate between red, purple and green ranks. If people keep rotating between those ranks, we may as well merge them altogether in a new system.
This is also why I do not take some complaints about matchmaking seriously. For example, a green killer who has in the past many times been a red killer, complains about having red survivors join the lobby - if you already played red survivors as a red killer then how is it different to play red survivors as a green killer

Are you able to choose whether to play on BATTERED & BRUISED or BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS?
I'm a decently good survivor who generally stays in the Red ranks, so I wouldn't want to have to purposely de-rank myself just to play with my non-Red rank friends considering your version of high ranks has SWF disabled.

Once you graduate BATTERED & BRUISED, you can play either BATTERED & BRUISED or BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS.
I planned it like this because if the player has managed to graduate from both the first two tiers, they should be able to compete in BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS which is the competitive non-SWF tier with extra bonuses

So essentially:
- All players start at CUTS & SCRATCHES (low tier)
- They graduate CUTS & SCRATCHES and unlock BATTERED & BRUISED (mid+ tier)
- They graduate BATTERED & BRUISED which unlocks BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS (competition tier) allowing players to choose which tier to play in excluding CUTS & SCRATCHES of course
*BATTERED & BRUISED = SWF enabled
*BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS = NO SWF with incentive of bonus blood points and shards

A good idea in theory, but it would both divide up the games community further than it already is, thus increasing queue times, as well as band-aid fix the "swf problem".
Locking sfw away from the tip top ranks or "competition ranks" just means those who regularly play swf will either keep playing but find that very few killers stick around to play against, further increasing an already lenghty queue time, and when they do find a killer will decimate the killer due to them being :blood, sweat and tears" worthy, and getting a killer who is likely just trying to outrank that system.
The whole idea seems a veiled attempt to just say "lol screw you sfw players", and as rude as im sounding (which i aint trying to call you out or insult you in any way) the whole idea is just entirely unacceptable. For killers its just "oh i get to play against solos forever, and also get great rewards? But to do so i have to wade through a bunch of matches against the sfw groups left behind?"

@IceCreamPrincess so what do you suggest instead?

@Pirscher well i myself am not a developer, and dont have access to all the stats or balance know how, so my ideas would be flawed.
I would myself instead of just putting up a "no sfw allowed" sign for the competition ranks incentivise all players rank specific rewards, for both getting to and maintaining these ranks. I would also of course wish the matchmaking was tighter, less variance within the system so not to have a rank 7 killer playing with ranks 1s and rank 13s
Furthermore if possible, add a unranked mode, and make it so you cannot play with players who are not within your rank bracket (or say 3 ranks away) from eachother in a specific competitive mode. That way, yes sfw groups can play with whoever they fancy, but a rank 20 cant play with rank 1s in the competitive mode, but instead a seperate "quick play" mode.
Telling players that sfw is evil is just insulting a large portion of the playerbase, and demonising them for just wanting to play a video game with there friends. However i dont want to ruin every discussion on here with the "sfw is reeeeeeee" debate so i digress
I do like the idea of the early ranks, where you can't derank to just stomp on babies, and with a properly active playerbase that would be a good way for newer or less able players to be able to play against players of their own skill levels. Yes smurfing will be an issue, but thats an issue with every game

Your perks are not... good...

The ranking system is what caused me to start with this idea. I am not in the SWF war at all.
@IceCreamPrincess I havent said anything at all about SWF being evil? you write "Telling players that sfw is evil is just insulting a large portion of the playerbase". If you came here for a SWF war, this is the wrong place, I want to discuss ideas for a different ranking system.
Again: "I would myself instead of just putting up a "no sfw allowed" sign for the competition ranks..." My idea for having the competitive tier for graduated killers and survivors with no SWF traces back to the devs original idea of this game playing like a B-grade horror movie where everyone can´t communicate and is forced to work together to do well.
Do not worry, I am not calling anything evil or putting signs up :D

Apologies, i didnt mean to say that you @Pirscher specifically are making this a sfw war, or that you are insulting them or anything of the sort, but more the wider community as a whole does that.
And i do remember that was the original goal for the game, and i agree the games atmosphere and game feel is leagues apart when playing the game alone. However unfortunately these intentions are put to the wayside the moment it becomes a team game, and players will always try to communicate.
Im sure you remember the circumstances of sfws existence, and to me its a necessity that needs to be incorporated into the ranking system entirely, not barred from entry in the top ranks. But thats likely a thing we disagree with
However that doesn't detract the other good ideas you made, the smaller ranking brackets is also a great idea, makes progression through the ranks less of a slog to go through

Kyf is only fun if you can get 5 people to buy dbd and play at the same time. My friends and I exclusively played kyf until people dropped. Then there are scheduling conflicts.

Remove ranks completely, honestly what is the point of it? No reward, no nothing.
Red ranks as survivor are filled with potatoes anyway. Killer can stop complaining about being a newbie with 10hrs in the game being matched against players with 1k hrs and more.
BHVR not fixing it anyway.

Its really one of those things that if it works for him... who are we to call em bad.

Why is Nancy using Kaioken?
(Please someone get this reference)

Then how come 9 times out of 10 I win? Focus on yourself I can guarantee you use the most obvious ######### bbq, ruin. Me I'm using a three perk build essentially because noed rarely comes into play.
Stbfl for quick hits, light born to deny pallet stuns and brutal strength it works for me may not for you because you are too soft a killer therefore unworthy of the title

I am actually a green ranked killer playing against the Red and purple ranked survivors
But my point being is actually simple as well... by introducing ranks within the colors it allows the devs to see how the player base plays the ranks
