Messed up ranking system
Why tf am I killer at rank 12 and being placed with survivors at rank 4? It really doesn’t make sense to me. It’s so annoying to have to deal with and it honestly makes the game un enjoyable.

Don't worry, with the "fix" incoming, you can't see what rank they are! So now instead of knowing that the matchmaking is garbage, you'll just think you're a bad killer.

That's not happening. The only reason anyone thought it was was because of an unofficial source that included the feature in "leaked" patch notes, and because certain high-profile community members spread the misinformation by tweeting about it. It was never announced by BHVR, nor was it included in the official patch notes or in the PTB.
To address OP's question, there is a bug in matchmaking at the moment where the system receives incorrect rank information from the killer, causing them to be matched with survivors outside of the "six-rank limit". It's an issue that the devs are aware of and are currently working to fix.

It's okay, not your fault 😊 As I said, it's unfortunately a pretty big misconception in the community at the moment because not everyone reads the patch notes or plays the PTB, and certain big names were spreading the news around before the official patch notes got released.

To put it simply, there are too many Survivors in the red ranks currently and there are not enough Killers to match with them. So matchmaking decides to match any rank Killer with them just to get the game started.
This is exacerbated by continuous nerfs that have caused Killers to switch to Survivor or leave the game completely.
