Too many DLC

As much as I love this game it really bothers how more than half of the characters are locked behind DLC.

Original characters shouldn't be dlc imo. Licensed ones being dlc is okay of course since these aren't the dev's IPs.

And yes, I know you can unlock characters with shards but many players probably don't know that since the game doesn't tell you that. It only shows the option when you go to the ingame store. But you just hover your mouse over a locked character icon it just says that it's avaiable in a dlc.

Anyone thinks the same?

EDIT: just in case it looks like I am begging for free stuff, I am not. I own all chapters and paid for all of them.

I am just saying it could scare away potential new players.

You don't think it costs them money to develop original characters?

Would you rather there was paid DLC or a monthly subscription? The developers need to eat too.

I pay for the new characters because I want there to be support for the game financially, and I don't pay for cosmetics. I have before for my Spirit's kimono, but that's because I feel weird with her rather young appearance (I know the Devs say that there will never be any kids in the game, but she honestly looks like a teenager......) and those bandages. Plus the kimono looks good.

If a character isn't doing well, though, or I don't REALLY want or need them, then I've waited before for that chapter to go on sale.

They can just crank up the price a jit and give to new players the game with all non licensed killers, i mean if a new player want the "full game" now is going to cost him a leg...

Well, you don't "need" them as a new player and if you want a specific one you can buy it. Dlc's are in sale a lot of times as well so it's already cheaper to get it

Want ruin? 7€ for hag, want bbq? 5€ leatherface, want surveliance? 7€ for pig.

Oh, ruin is nerf3d, better use sonething 3lse, 5-7€ for a killer who has that perk you need... is quite easy to spend more m9ney to get the perks tou want than the game cost itself.

And yes, you dont need them, please from now.on play both Survivor and killer with only base perks, no dlc perks, is jot going to be fun i assure you. :)

And still2ith sales we are, right now at a price of 120€ for all the dlc, plus 20€ of game...

I bought them in time so i'm not affected, but if i were a new player i'll probably avoid this game seeing how much i have to spent in it to just have it "full"

The Chapter dlcs are likely where they make most of their money. Making them free could be a huge mistake and hurt the game.

The current shard system is fine and dlcs are cheap only $5-$8 US.

You'll spend what $100-$200 getting everything? Then have to play thousands of hours to level those characters so the time per dollar spent is crazy good value

Just inform the new player of how much time they'll get out of that 120 if they intend to max every dlc.

120 for thousands of hours isn't bad at all. 1 $5-$8 dlc is over 100 hours to P3 50.

If you buy DLCs just for the perks alone, you're dumb. Like how a lot of people complained how the Ash DLC was a scam when they nerfed Mettle of Man, I simply don't get that mindset.

I buy the characters for the characters alone. Not to get the most meta perks in the game.

Than i repeat, play for a wile with only the free perks, not the dlc ones, than tell us onestly how it feel.

Well, if you play survivor you don't need any DLC since it's jusz a "skin" and most perks are not worth to get. Anyways, you can still unlock for shards or shrine. In the time you get one char to 40 for the teachables you can afford the next one with shards so you don't need all dlc's at once.

However, if you play killer as well it's totally worth to buy the DLCs for unique gameplay.

With current lowest rank takes priority matchmaking i'd argue perks aren't necessary at all...

Hag is also a base killer on ps4/xbox/switch a 4k i was at rank 1 no perks a red rank brought purple/green friends in.

You can get wins with nothing but base killers at any rank with the current matchmaking.

If you want everything all at once, then yeah, it is expensive. No need to do that though, pace yourself. Once everything is unlocked you will hate that you have to wait 3 months for a new character.

Most of the 'best' perks in the game are for the free characters:

Survivors have Prove Thyself, Self-Care, Adrenaline, Sprint Burst, Quick & Quiet, Iron Will, Urban Evasion, Balanced Landing, Dead Hard, Unbreakable, Borrowed Time and We'll Make It.

Killers have Brutal Strength, Enduring, Lightborn, A Nurse's Calling, Thanathophobia, Stridor, Sloppy Butcher, Bitter Murmur and NOED.

They gotta make more money somehow and the cosmetics don't really roll in the cash...

Oh man, completely forgot the consoles have some of the DLC pre-installed too.

The current system for characters is fine and shouldn't be changed. Without them being DLC characters the options would be to only have licensed characters or for them to just not make characters at all. They have to put money into making the characters and maps. Tech required to make characters can be really expensive. Not to mention the cost of paying the people who have to work on designing the content. None of the DLC are very expensive. It's like 10$ every 3ish months. If you play the game enough, that's not a steep price. You also don't have to own every character and can still unlock them with shards from playing. Sure, as a new player it can be daunting to look at the growing list of characters and feel unhappy about not getting every character. The Devs need to make money to keep the game going and they aren't AAA studio size so they don't make enough money off cosmetics to fully fund making free chapters and everything else they do.

Yes, that's fair point but it doesn't change the situation.

I believe it could also scare away potential players when they see the amount of paid stuff.

Maybe the devs should try to do something to increase the sales of the base game instead of selling dlc.

I don't think they should make the original characters free, but they should at least lower the price of the characters. Perhaps 6000-7000 shards. Perks in the shrine could be lowered to 1500 shards too.

I'm pretty sure they get a lot of money with cosmetics, especially survivor cosmetics. They're not that cheap and usually you see a new skin in every game when it's out.

It's a bit annoying that they are all blacked out. Bit of an eye sore. But honestly it isn't that expensive to get all of the dlc. The DLC goes on sell all the time usually at half price. Just wait for a sell and get some of the dlc like a boss.

I do think on pc if it isn't already, the Doctor, Hag, Meg, and whoever was in the ps4 base version should be added for free at this point. Though I got most of the pc dlc when it was on sale for cheap. I'm missing some of the newer stuff however.
