I don't think it's about people wanting to pip, but more of the emblem system not being a true representation of skill. For example, when you get a 3K and still safety, it's just really painful to see you do so well and not earn any progress.
Another cringey thing that players, me included, find about the emblem system is that it goes against the developer's saying of, "We aim for a 2K, which is a draw" However, anyone who plays killer at high ranks know you need to 3K or 4K for rank progression. If you get a 2K, you'll likely lose rank when by the developers standards — you shouldn't.
The developers, should stick to a simple ranking system for the killer only since they have only one goal: Sacrifice Survivors. Regardless of the rank, it should always be:
- 0K = -2 pips or 0-2 Hooks = -2 pips
- 1K = -1 pip or 3-5 Hooks = -1 pip
- 2K = 0 pips or 6-8 Hooks = 0 pips
- 3K = 1 pip or 9-11 Hooks = 1 pip
- 4K = 2 pip or 12 Hooks = 2 pips
Best part, a 4K is always a double pip regardless of how you got the 4K, while getting multiple hooks is also rewarding.
Unlike killers, survivors have their power distributed along four players. The current survivors' emblem system makes sure to reward survivors for pulling their weight and punishing those who are getting carried by their teammates. Of course it can be improved, but I think the survivor's ranking system is infinitely better than the killer's ranking system. 😁
