Tips as survivor?

Hey all, I've been playing the game on and off since the game came out (maybe about 400 hours on Xbox and pc combined) and I could use some tips on playing survivor.

I can usually make it to end game just focusing on generators and hook saves, but when it comes to chases I suck. And somehow, I've made it to rank 4 and can't get out of it (unless I just try to kill myself, which I hate to do to my teammates). In reality, I'd probably be more of a rank 10-12 survivor.

I don't really know what classifies a safe pallet, jungle gyms, good loops and so on that I see everyone talking about. I usually play more stealthy, but I just bought Dead Hard in the shrine of secrets so I may try to make use out of it.

The perks I'm currently running are Adrenaline, Urban Evasion, Resilience and kindred. I'll also switch it up sometimes and put in Quick and Quiet, lightweight or self care.

I'm not posting this to get flamed in the comments, so any tips would help greatly

I think there’s two types of survivors. The loopers and the immersed. I sucked at looping and chases forever and only recently got even sort of good at it, so I’m better playing stealthy. It’s sucks though because once found I struggle. So, you ain’t alone ;)

in my experience if you want to get gud on chases then you need to seek out chases.

If you have object of obsession you can make the killer come to you instead of getting caught with your pants down.

but at the end of the day you just need to practice being chased.

Dont play scared, its only a game and you wont die in real life. Dont sit at exit gates if someones on the hook, either balls up and save or leave. Do gens. Try looping pallets instead of dropping them willy nilly. Have fun, in the end its all about fun. Ggs.

    Look behind you, hug walls.

Always run with an idea of where you are going, be aware of your noise and scratchmarks and when you have lost los try and double back walking.

If not in a chase, always be doing something gens, totems, going for a save, healing others, you don't want to spend much time doing nothing.

There are 3 kinds of loops:

Unsafe Loop: A loop with a pallet, that has bo nearby window, and two short walls surrounding. Making it easy for the killer to just walk around to hit you regardless if you use the pallet or not.

Basic Loop: A loop with a pallet, that has a small wall and a window, or a long wall and a small wall. Making it difficult for the killer to catch you if you loop smart, and keep winning the mindgame.

Safe Loop: A loop with a window and/or pallet, with long wall that makes it very difficult for the killer to catch you if you keep running in a circle, or until the killer breaks the pallet.

God Pallets: Are pallets that need to be broken immediately by killer else they will make survivors immune. These are found at safe loops.

Jungle Gyms: Are loopable areas usually of 3 walls, 1 window, and 1 pallet. They also house a safe loop.

L Windows: A type of jungle gym with no pallet, rather its two L shaped walls each with a Window. Known as the most balanced loop as it takes knowledge from either side to win this mind game.

Then there are different structures on each map with their own unique looping patterns.

    Vaults:

Slow Vault: Not holding run button when vaulting a window.

Medium Vault: taking a window very tightly, or without enough distance for a Fast Vault.

Fast Vault: When vaulting a window unimpeded from running at a window at least 2ft towards the window.

I would suggest looking up loops for different maps, but first go on youtube and look up how to do the L loop (sometimes called the T loop, or 2 Window loop). Its common on most maps, and the jungle gyms changes on some maps. Practice getting the fast vault in every vault, because the killer is trying to force you to make medium vaults.

As for Perks: I would drop all of those, as Urban slows you down, Adrenaline is useless till the end of the match, Kindred is nice to ensure getting unhooked but won't save you from campers and your goal should be to never get hooked, resistance is only good when you get hit - you don't want to ever get hit, and you often want to be healed to full health state.

I would suggest taking Decisive Strike, Dead Hard, Spine Chill, and Inner Strength.

Decisive Strike: Mainly to counter tunneling, but more for when your team pulls unsafe saves. When your very good at the game it turns into a 60 second invulnerability, which means a free gen, or escaping at the end of the match if injured.

Dead Hard: Very good for dodging attacks. Mostly used to reach another loop or get another chance around a basic or unsafe loop. When you are good, you can use it as a breif invulnerability to ignore attacks, and avoid traps.

Spine Chill: Counters Stealth Killers. Best used to know exactly when the killer is close enough to leave a generator, or if the Killer is near an area of a totem, chest, or survivor that needs to be saved. It ignores Terror Radius perks/addons/abilities, so you will know if the Killer is actually nearby even if your in it's terror radius.

Inner Strength; 8 second heal, faster than self care, counters noed, counters hex: totems, counters nurses calling, pairs well with decisive strike, and locker based perks. (After being unhooked if Inner Stength is active, immediatly hiding in a locker you get healed, or the killer pulls you out activating your DS).

However use whatever you find most comfortable. Just prioritize gens above all else. Your own survival above anyone else.

This is all you really need. I got to rank 1 in 2 days alone with only knowing as little as this.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll definitely be practicing chases, but in red ranks it might be a pain lol

@kreeper124 Hope you are doing well. @Pythonheir gave a really great breakdown on the different types of structures and perks. Somethings that will also help your ability to survive.

Timing and Positioning: Timing in this game is everything. You need to know when to save, when to work on generators, and when to loop the killer. Get knowledge on where other survivors are on the map and what they are doing. If a survivor is in a chase work on saves and gens. Some perks that can help you know where people are would be Spine Chill/Bond/Empathy.

With positioning, you want to be able to know where the killer is when you are running loops. Don't always run, but position yourself on corners to know which way the killer is coming. This will allow you to know when to vault windows, throw pallets, or leave the area.

Perks: I usually run spine chill and empathy to know where the Killer is on the map. These perks will allow you to stay immersed and know when you have lost the killer. By deciding what your play style is will help you decide what perks to bring in. If you know you are going to be in tough situations frequently, Deceive Strike/All Exhausted Perks/Spine Chill/Self Care/Unbreakable/Mettle of Men are good choices.

    Immersion Perks: Empathy/Spine Chill/Quick and Quiet/Urban Evasion/Diversion/Iron Will/Light Weight/Dance with Me should be considered.

Some of these perks are better than others, and people will argue whether they are worth it. Figure out your play style and choose the ones that work well with you.
