Move your skillchecks and secondary action to mousewheel down.
Try it, it will change your life. My rationale? Not only do you not have to smash your poor spacebar (which arguably has a longer finger to button actuation distance, improving reaction time)... but your left hand is free to sip your beverage of choice and eat snacks. I also find it makes DH a little bit easier to control in the rare instance that I actually use DH.
Is this an old topic or an awesome alternative that nobody talks/knows about? I'm curious about your opinions on the subject...

Use the triggers for gens on console.

I personally changed my skillchecks to M4 (a little button on the side of the mouse), was absolutely amazing.
