I've noticed that when I play as killer and come into a lobby that I now have a ping. And as a survivor I don't get kicked out of a lobby when the killer leaves. What changed? I didn't hear anything about servers being added.

Dedicated servers have recently been enabled on PS4, and they have been active on PC and Switch for a while now. So the reason you have ping as killer and don't get kicked out of a lobby when the killer leaves as a survivor is because the killer is no longer the host of the games. Instead, all players are connected to whichever of the servers is nearest to you.
