How to make matchmaking work

Balance around TRUE red ranks/optimal players: I KNOW I KNOW. This has been said a million times. But the game has to be balanced around what's POSSIBLE rather than what happens on AVERAGE. Just because survivors don't run toolboxes EVERY match or killers don't bring a mori EVERY match, does not mean that in the case in which they do decide to, the other side should just expect to take it in the chin and move on to the next game. Sure, Red Ranks are right now are filled with players who don't belong, but DBD has a great streaming scene. You can gather data from all Youtubers/Streamers that put 1000's of hours into the game and are universally accepted by the community to be God Killers/Survivors. Once they average 2k per game, then we can see where the game needs to go. Will this make things harder for the average player? Yes. But no game should balance around players who don't have the time/desire to get better at the game. Changes made to cater to low ranks should be QoL level. Not game altering changes.

Rank Rewards: This encourages players to stay at high ranks. If there is no reward, then people will just depip and play against people they can have "fun" with. This topic is one of the few things the community isn't divided on yet it has not been implemented. There are LOADS of different ways you can accomplish this that wouldn't even require affecting the profits from store cosmetics/currency. People need an outlet to show their stuff. Bloody clothing for prestige was a great idea. The DBD design team is incredible. I'm sure they can come up with something.

Lengthen the Rank Season: Have the rank reset every 3 months. You can line it up with Chapter releases so that players are EXTRA excited about the release. They get rewards and fresh content. It also opens up the possibilities for better rewards since monthly rewards would have to be mediocre due to the frequency they are given out. And I believe it would give better data on games by giving players more time to get "settled" in their respective ranks.

Balancing around Kills: The devs have stated that the game would ideally be balanced around a 2k per game average. Because of all the variables, I would have to say that even though kills aren't exactly the best measure of skill, it would be a lot simpler than trying to measure chase times, pallet usage, etc. Especially since those stats don't really mean anything either. Will survivors intentionally suicide? Yeah. Will Killers sometimes give an escape? Yeah. I think a 2.5 kill average would be healthy. BuT tHaT mEaNs ThE kIlLeR wOuLd HaVe An AdVaNtAgE. Yeah. But it makes no sense to have a killer in the game that is more likely to NOT kill you than he is to kill you. It's not about picking a side, but making the game function as it should. Plus the Hatch is a free escape mechanic so I think it balances out. Also, I think that if EVERY killer was balanced around 2.5k, survivors wouldn't be as frustrated because they wouldn't play against Billy, Spirit, and Nurse every game. Sure, there will killers you don't like playing against but that's just a preference. And with more diversity, you would be less likely to run into the one killer you don't like.

I understand some people want to play casually and mess around. COOL! But don't expect other players to go along with you just because. The killer isn't obligated to go easy on you. And if you're playing casual as killer, then you probably don't expect to get many kills in the first place. Play as you like and accept the consequence of that.
