Why DBD players should try Last Year game.
Last Year is a pretty new (compared to DBD) asymmetrical multiplayer horror game developed by a small indie studio located in Montreal. It has been created by 9 people so that's why you probably have not heard of it (they were investing the money in development and not advertising their game). That's why the game suffers from pretty low playerbase (100-200 people at any given moment). But you will always be able to find matches.
Why DBD players should try Last Year:
- The gameplay loop is similar to DBD with some interesting mechanics (like roleplay and L4D2 map design). 1 killer is fighting against 5 survivors. The game heavily focuses on teamplay.
There are roles like medic, assault, scout and technician. Up to 2 people can choose to play one role. The game has very different objectives in every single map so you don't have to do one thing all the time (like repair generators).
- No micro transactions at all and limited time skins! If you start playing right now you can unlock limited time skins that will never be brought up into the game later. Unlike battle pass in DBD...
- Killer is as strong as he should be. Unlike DBD, the killer in Last Year is much stronger than any survivor and the team has to communicate to defeat him. If the team stays together they can defeat killer much easier!
- There's voice chat. You can mute toxic players if you want or turn the voice chat off but at the moment community is very friendly (unlike DBD's community) and when I got into that game, random survivors explained me all the mechanics I should know.
- Nostalgic feeling. The game is set in 80's and it really feels it. Graphics are amazing (especially on ultra) and they reflect 80's. Also the game has creepy atmosphere. Sometimes it's too dark but other than that I love everything about graphics.
- It has a giant spider killer! They will add more unique killers in the future! Free DLC's are guaranteed and they said that they might make some licensed ones in the future. You don't have to grind to unlock any character or killer. Everything is unlocked from the start with an exception for spells that work just like offerings in DBD.
- It doesn't have perks but there is Arcanum (a thing that looks like a Bloodweb) so you will understand the progression system. In arcanum can unlock spells that have 1 time use (just like offerings in DBD). That's another progression system besides doing challenges and unlocking limited time skins for free.
Also developers are very friendly, they are listening to us especially on Twitter. But now there are some cons of the game:
- It has peer to peer servers so sometimes it causes high ping (just like DBD used to have those servers).
- Disconnecters and some bugs.
Other than that, the game is paid but it's less than 20 dollars! I do not regret my purchase and as a DBD player I do recommend trying the game out. 2 weeks later they will add a new map and do their first ever free to play weekend so they can attract new players. I'm interested what do you think about the game!

nice ad, expecting it to be locked soon.

Yeah no thanks. It looks okay, but I'd get bored of it in a week. They pretty much disappeared for a year then came back "HEY GUYS, WE UPDATED THE GAME! SPIDER! PERKS! BLOODWEB TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM DBD! COME TRY IT!"

They've been updating and fixing it often now

Last year is set in the 90s not 80s. If you're gonna advertise a game at least get simple facts right...

Except that Last Year get's weekly bug fixes, while DBD has been out for more than 3 years and still barely get's bug fixes. Even simple audio bugs like Bubba's chainsaw, is still bugged since Plague release.

Make some advertising somewhere else. U also posted it in the dbd steam forums.

I mean say what you want about the DBD devs or update system. But last year devs legit banned people for disagreeing with them and ######### off for over a year. Not trustworthy imo. and all the updates theyve been doing are blatantly stolen from dbd soooo, yeah... no dice.

I have never played it myself, but watched people play on streams. I think it looks absolutely terrible and will never be competition to this game. It’s not going to last.
