State of the Game

I have been playing Dead by daylight since release. I'm not a beta OG player but I've played for a very, very long time, both on PC (mainly) and a bit on console (Xbox). I have been around since the beginning but have never really got in to the "Community" part of the game. I've never been on the forum before {except to occasionally read upcoming patch notes) and I've never made a forum post before now.

Dead by Daylight is my most played game of all time and i absolutely love it. HOWEVER the current state of the game and the recent decisions made by the Developers of the game gave finally pushed me over the edge. I played this game during the "dark times" when the game was at its least balanced and it was almost unplayable, but I stuck with it and made it through the dark times and have been playing ever since. Over the years I have played both survivor and killer almost equally (killer slightly more). I have played solo-queue, swf, kill your friends and regular killer games. I'm saying all this to paint a picture of the kind of player I am. I'm not new to the game, I'm not just a survivor/killer main and I know this game very, very well, and I sit in red ranks on both killer and survivor, so I hope that when I say what I'm about to say, you realise this isn't the unreliable rantings a salty newbie.

After the recent (and not so recent) changes made to the game, I can now confidently say that I honestly believe the game is at the lowest point it's been at since the "dark days". I've noticed a steady decline in the quality of the game for some time now but decided to stay quiet and have faith after so many years of loyalty. This latest update is the straw that broke the camels back.

And before you think "It's just another killer annoyed about the ruin change", that is only a small part of the reason I've lost faith in the game. The removal of ruin is not just a poor change for the game in its current state, it is also the final and biggest piece of proof (for me at least) that proved just how little I, as a player, mean to the developers. This change has further solidified my belief that the developers of this game have a far far smaller understanding of their own game than a good portion of its players. It's not just the ruin change, it's what it represents.

The balancing of the game being focused on green/purple ranks has always been an issue in this game since launch. Maybe ruin was a problem for the balance of the game at green ranks but a seemingly small change for the lower ranks is amplified ten fold in the higher ranks. I've always thought that the developers cared more about bringing in new players than caring for the players they already have, and this change is another of many in this area that has further solidified this belief. They make it so difficult to want to keep playing, with no incentives or rewards for ranking up whatsoever, apart from being forced to play in a much less balanced game than the lower ranks. And since everyone who ever plays the game and sticks with it will eventually end up in red ranks, why would you not be balancing the game for that rank? That is where every single member of the player base will eventually end up with enough time, and in the current state of the game, they have absolutely no reason to want to stay there and keep playing once they reach rank 1.

As an equal player of killer and survivor I can tell you right now that the game is so unfathomably survivor biased that I honestly can not comprehend how the the situation was allowed to get this bad. I don't understand how, in a horror survival game, its more scary playing as the killer than it is playing as a survivor. You'd think that as the killer you'd have an experience that's closer to being thrilling and exciting more than stressful and aggravating, whereas when you play survivor you can relax without a care in the world and still escape with a double pip before the killer even knows whats hit them.

Speaking of the ranking system. If you needed further proof of the unbridled catering to the survivors of the game, just take a look at the comparison between the ranking system for the 2 roles. I've actually started screen capturing my killer end-game screens because I am still dumbfounded as to how the developers could possibly believe the current system is up to standard. The developers are quoted themselves as saying that they believe the average game should result in 2 deaths and 2 escapes, which for a survivor could result in a black pip or 1 pip, but for a killer is basically a guaranteed de-pip, or maybe a black pip if you're lucky.

The game has been overly survivor sided for as long as I can remember, however it hasn't been this bad for a long time, and I am still absolutely, utterly lost as to how the developers can still possibly be this bad at making the game fair to both sides after this many years of working on the game. I don't know if its because they don't care about the problem because they only care about the game being balanced for green ranks and the new players or if it's because they genuinely don't see whats wrong with a killer dreading playing as killer. I used to absolutely love playing killer and now I dread having to do the killer archive challenges because it means dealing with broken generator speeds, ridiculous survivor perks, under powered killers and unbalanced maps.

I do still have a flicker of hope for this game, it has been a massive part of my life, and I hope more than anything that the developers realise that the game is basically unplayable for killers in red ranks in its current state and that they do something to fix the situation. But until a day comes where the game is fair for both survivors and killers again, and is fun to play both sides on, after almost 4 years of playing this game, I'm finally giving up and moving on.

    Concerning the OP: A lot of people write something similar here, and I agree that the game is very unbalanced. I don't expect that the devs will change the direction of this game, apparently they have decided to go for a casual, low-skill party game.

    What I always say: A video game is supposed to be fun. If it makes you feel bad, play something else that brings you enjoyment instead.

    Killer is a lot easier at red ranks where ruin was used most due to rank dilution in survivors. If ruin was still in the game BHVR's income would reach an all time low. Thanks for being selfish I guess, anything you want me to speculate on?

    Just facts... True Red Rank Survivors. Once that had good skill and experience. Ruin meant nothing. If it was down, great. If not, they would plow through it like it wasn't there. Ruin did nothing to slow down truly good survivors. Ruin slowed down the Potatoes so you could catch them while they looked for Ruin. The game is so unbalanced that against a really good Rank 1 SWF, you had no hopes of a 2K, much less a 4K. IF they just wanted to plow through gens and leave. Most want to goof off, moonwalk and troll. That's the only reason any of them every died.

    Example; If the developers continue to believe of the Nurse is in good condition, the population of the game may drop.. because it's not only for the Nurse !
