Purpose of Insidious
Of course the age-old meme of basement-camping Leatherface.
I just went against the following build on Leatherface:
- Insidious
- Iron Grasp
- Agitation
- Monstrous Shrine
- Add-ons: Primer Bulb, Spark Plug.
Fair enough if someone wants to dedicate to a basement hooking build, but Insidious as a concept encourages and rewards dishonourable or “toxic” gameplay.
I would just like to ask — if it's not been addressed before, in which case I'm sorry — what is the design philosophy behind Insidious as a perk? A killer with smarts would know to always be on the move, on the hunt, for survivors. Standing still as killer is a way to ruin your own game by letting objectives be completed, yet this perk rewards that sort of thing.
(Trying not to whine — emotions are always high after a frustrating match but I just objectively do not understand the reasoning behind this perk existing.)
Thanks,
Xbox player “des7in”.

I've seen afew examples in videos of pretty interesting uses for it, although I cant remember the titles otherwise Id simply link them to ya. In one, a killer chased a survivor off a generator, only to wait near it for abit knowing the survivor would come back and managed to get a pretty sweet gen grab. In another, someone was doing the evil incarnate achievement as Myers. As you would expect, there came a point where a survivor jump into a locker to avoid a mori, so the Myers walked around the corner and activated insidious to trick the survivor into coming out.
Personally, I think a rework of the perk to allow it to be used for none camping purposes while limiting the camping benefits would be nice.

Camping is not toxic, or dishonorable. It's a legitimate play style. Even the devs say so.

The only purpose of insidious is to piss of players. U can't pull out anything with this perk besides hardcore camping.

As another poster wrote, it’s good to sneak up on a survivor who comes back to a gen. It is also good paired with Franklins demise, where the killer can ambush people coming back for their items.
Yes, it’s best for basement camping, but it does have uses other than camping players.

I used it on freddy before his rework. I was able to catch people off guard with it.

I've actually used Insidious during chases. Granted, it's not the optimal use of it, but it can be done. Besides, if a player gets pissed off about something, that's their problem.

If someone was trying to be “toxic” and not win - why’d they bring insidious on lery? They’d just rev the chainsaw in the survivors face all match and get a 1k. That probably happens in less than 0.001% of games if we’re being honest.
