Question About Gesturing on Hook
So when I started playing this game, I was under the impression that if I try to unhook but don't complete the action to create that flappy arm motion - it translates to "killer's right here, don't try to save me." But then I was told it was the opposite? Just want to see how everyone else responds to that while playing solo survivor? (Obviously if I'm in SWF I can just tell my friends over chat "hey just let me die lol" but I don't have that option 90% of the time I'm playing.)

When the game first started - going for the flappy arms motion did indeed mean that the killer was camping and do gens....staying still on the hook was the sign that it was safe to rescue.
Over time these got mixed up, now I don't think anyone really pays any attention to whether or not you are waving your arms on the hook.

Along came Kindred....

Didn't Kindred come out in 1.1.0?
But it wasn't as beefy as it is now.

If you flap arms, its not safe.
So it has always been and thus it shall remain!
You can't change the meaning of one of the only methods of communication between non SWF survivors!!!

There was just recently another thread with this question. I think common sense was that we should focus on using the same "speech" again to iron out one of the solo survivor flaws :)
Flapping should mean "killer camps", do gens. Doing the unhook like 90% and stop means "help me, other is in chase / noone else coming". Hope we can implement that :)

Is that what it means? Sometimes people just spam flap their arms for fun from what I've seen lol

Unfortunately, you can if enough people decide it means something different. That's how languages evolve over time. Right now, half the community use a certain gesture to mean one thing, half of them use it to mean the other, and since you don't know which camp your teammates fit into, it's no longer possible to communicate clearly one way or the other unless you agree on a method of communication with those specific people in advance.

That's why I hope the latest 2 threads bring us to common sense again.
@MysticMusician yes, it used to be. And currently sometimes peole just get bored and do the only thing they can do in that situation ^_^'

David is the one true hero of flappy arms magee. David's got the muscle to flex on the killer camping the hook, mostly. Flappy arms will summon a David with his flapping and all will be right in the world

Fair enough, but if someone is in my games and is flapping, I won't be coming for the save! :)

If you flap your arms, I assume you are being camped and ill leave you hanging.

Quick Flapping motions mean the killer is camping; long, almost escape-attempt flaps mean that no one has started running for the save yet and the person wants to be unhooked.
This has proven to be consistent for me in red ranks, at least until the rank reset changes that allowed more unskilled players into red...

If someone is on the hook and flapping with their arms, I'm not gonna go for the unhook.
I started playing 2016 and it always meant that the killer is camping and everyone should do gens. And I think it us the only logical translation to this gesture. If someone does that out of boredom and nobody goes for the unhook, jokes on them. I only do it in case nobody unhooks me and I'd hit 2nd state if noone comes right now.

It should be added to the tutorial and the loading screen hints.

Well I don't know about others but personally I do it like this:
Someone nearby is coming to unhook me, I stay still if it's safe, do the motion if not (either the killer or traps are nearby).
I also do the arm motion if everyone seems to be doing gens far away to signal that someone should come get me.
Surprisingly, I think it has worked most of the time.
