Does this game have any type of match making?
I started playing a couple days ago, and so far the experience is not great. I keep getting paired with people who clearly know this game very well. As a survivor it seems I'm always the first one targeted and hooked. As a killer if I manage to down one person it's a miracle.
Out of the 2 days of playing I think I've had maybe 3 matches where I still died or lost but felt like I contributed and or actually earned some points. Most times its hooked dead, or everyone's got 3 gens before I down one person.
At the end screen I can see everyone with rare perks and I'm there with my one or two yellow perks, just standing there.
It's really disheartening as a new player, cause I enjoy watching this game but to play it, phew oh boy, not so much.
I've watched videos of tips and tricks to better your self but if I'm against all these MLG players, how am i supposed to get better, or more concerning have ANY fun while playing.
Eh I dunno, if there is match making maybe I'm just on at the wrong times.

Yes, and no. In theory, there is a match making system, it's just not well-designed to begin with and has at least one major bug on top of that. So in practice, matchmaking doesn't work as intended half the time - although of course, other factors like time of day and region can also play into that, as they affect how large the available player pool is.
The issues with matchmaking are something everyone is aware of, including the developers themselves, which is why they're about to implement a new MMR-based matchmaking system which they're hoping will solve a lot of the issues with the current one.
Time will tell if that does turn out to be the case, but everything we know so far about the new system comes from this post: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/124795/status-update-matchmaking-changes

Well, for one I can assure you the the match-making will see future updates and an entire overhaul to counter-act this issue.
As for the other, the current match-making is plagued with several issues and inconsistencies like Fibijean has said, the "Rainbow Rank issue" is currently still a prominent one within the current match making, which pairs you with ranks far above your own when the match-making can't find others of your rank to play with. Sometimes though, it bugs out and has a hard time finding players of your skill-set in-general, so it pairs you with higher or lower ranks, which is the main issue that new players like yourself face at this current time.
The term "Rainbow Ranks" comes form the various colored ranks you'd be paired with, like the Red Ranks (the highest rank you can be) to Grey Ranks (The lowest rank you start with), so at the moment the match-making still suffers from this issue. Eventually, as the link shows above, it will be overhauled to reflect a more skill-based match-making system, rather than a ranked one.
for context, here's the link to the rework below

This status update covers what we should be seeing in the future. This isn't an immediate update, so we will see it gradually be improved and worked on for a final and more polished released to the LIVE version of the game.
I'm truly sorry that you're not enjoying your first few games in DBD, and I do hope you can endure this issue until the rank rework is implemented. We will eventually see improvements in the ranking system so new players no longer suffer from this issue.
