Is DBD on the Switch dead?
I opened the game on my switch and I can't find a game at all. Is the game dead on switch?

No it's very alive, I play all the time. It's usually dead between around 4am-10am PST for me. Might depend on where you live.

What rank are you on both sides and how long are your queues?

I wanted to get DBD on my switch but my friend told me it was nearly impossible to find games so I didn't. Should I reconsider?

I'll assume you just got the game for the Switch version and just started out around Yellow or Grey rank. If this is the case, than both those ranks naturally have long queue times due to not many players being in them, especially a bit late into the rank reset that happened 7 days ago.
Once you climb the ranks, you'll eventually get better queue times as a result. The queue times can also be determined by the time of day you're in, since not many people could be playing at that time, or the region you're in when playing DBD, which also affects your queue times a bit.
If you're in Green Ranks (Which you can see what rank you're in by checking the top right corner of the Killer/Survivor menu), than it sometimes has long queue times at that rank for console, but don't quote me on that since i'm not 100% sure. Each platform is different, and the match-making might be worse or better depending on what version of the game that's.

I was red rank on killer before reset, purple now, queues are instant. I haven't played survivor much since ruin nerf, but I was red rank before that and queues were usually 5 minutes at popular times of day. Probably worse now.

Definitely not impossible. Maybe a bit slower than other platforms. The main thing about switch right now is the average skill level is significantly lower than PC and other consoles, so it's really easy to rank up on both sides. Although that's definitely starting to change.

I'm still playing on it. I am playing as Killer though, which is probably why I can still find games relatively quickly. Survivor is also pretty quick. I'm on the NA server though.

Usually Killer gets worse queue times, give or take.
It really just depends on time of day, your rank, and region. Some platforms for DBD are different also, some have less players on it for queue and some have more for queue.

I haven't had any noticable trouble. I play Switch pretty regularly now, am in green ranks survivor and yellow in killer. Killer games take longer, but I consider that normal given its the same for me across PC and PS4, but I've never felt I've had to wait especially long unless I'm in a SWF group, which, again, has been consistent for me across platforms.

Perhaps it's because of his rank, region, or time of day.
Unfortunately the OP hasn't really said much about those, but we can only assume it has something to do with that, since a lot of queue times are determined by these three factors and other small bits here and there.

How does swf work on the switch? How do you use comms and mics?

Same as anything PC, I suppose, discord or other voice chat.
I generally play with my roommates when we're in the same house so we just yell at each other.

You don't have to use coms to play with friends, you just invite friends to join your party the same way you do on any other platform.

As said above, use Discord or archaic forms of communication like Teamspeak for that.
Usually a team can do find without comms though, if everyone on that team knows what they're doing and knows how to effectively go about their objectives without crippling their teammates in the process. So if you don't have the luxury of using Discord or have a mic in-general, than you can always just pull up a regular SWFs and go at it with some friendly faces.
