New Player - Disconnect bans and cooldown

Hello Everyone

After having watched DBD on Twitch for a few weeks, I decided to take the plunge and buy the game, and some DLC. I am enjoying it immensely for the most part, but I have a couple of questions.

I live in an area with what could be described as spotty internet, and about a week ago, I had several outages which pushed my disconnect timer to one hour. I decided to stop playing for a couple of days, and after our ISP assured us the issue was fixed I resumed playing.

Today I encountered another internet issue causing me to disconnect, and to my shock my disconnect penalty was still one hour, having not decreased in multiple days.

I kindly ask the following:

1) Does the disconnect penalty depend on in-game time or real time? Clearly there could be bugs in the disconnect implementation, so it would be nice to know whether the disconnect cooldown I am observing is expected, or incorrect and therefore warrant a bug fix.

2) Are there bans for disconnecting or is the scope of the disconnect penalty strictly limited to the lockout matchmaking. I ask because I would like to purchase all remaining DLC, but I can't if there is some secret disconnect ban hanging over my head.

I look forward to your thoughtful replies.

Warmest Regards,

Martin Johnson

Ok so, i'll just answer both these questions in the "realest" way I can, just so everything is in order.

question 1 "Does the disconnect penalty depend on in-game time or real time?"

We have no idea, the community can't tell you this answer and BHVR explicitly made sure that answer wasn't publicly given to avoid anyone from abusing the new system.

All we know is that the disconnection penalty decays overtime, and is working as intended. So as some believe "It resets at X time" that's not the case, the community knows as much as you do and that's for a good reason. All we know is that the penalty decays overtime from a quote that Mandy gave on another question related to this one, and that's it.

Question 2 "Are there bans for disconnecting or is the scope of the disconnect penalty strictly limited to the lockout matchmaking."

Yes, there is. Before the DC Penalty System was implemented, a vague amount of DCing would land you an in-game ban. This is still the case at this time, but the DC Penalty System ensures that hardly anyone will make it. The vague amount was, again, to prevent people from abusing the system and it's still unknown to keep it that way.

If this is not the case at the time of reading this, than the DC Penalty System would take over for the old DC Banning system. But as far as i'm aware, they're both implemented to prevent any abuse with both systems.

Thank you for your replies @FireHazard.

I understand why BHVR would keep the details vague, to prevent "gaming" the penalty.

However, I think there are players, including me, who are willing to accept disconnect penalties because of internet issues, but who don't want to have a secret ban looming.

Essentially, if the game tells me via disconnect penalties "Your internet is acting up, take a day or two off until you fix it", that's fine for me. I think the secret ban criteria is a bit harder to accept.

Yes, I understand what you mean.

A lot of players have come forward about this issue, since their internet also isn't the greatest and as a result crashes mid-match. As you know, once you crash intentionally or not, you'll still be issued a penalty as a result.

That's one of the main issues a lot of players have with the system at the moment. As I say to all of them though, I do hope something happens to make a compromise for those players, but at the moment I don't know if that will happen. The DC Penalty System is still relatively new, so i'm sure something will come of it once enough feedback is given.
