The " It's a horror game" argument for balance
People love to argue about balance for this game and there is nothing wrong with that. Having these kinds of discussions shows our passion for the game and our desire for it to be better. However there is a common argument used when people talk about balance and that is the need to make it more like an actual horror game.
In my opinion the " Its a horror game" argument actually promotes imbalance and is a biased view point. When this discussion is brought up it is mostly done as a way to convince people that killers need to be buffed. People will say stuff like " Survivors need to FEAR the killer" or " It should be a struggle for even the best survivors to escape." Now I am all for killers getting buffs and reworks to make them more enjoyable to play but examples like these are not the way to go.
First off anyone who plays this game for more then like 20 hours at most will no longer be scared of anything this game has to offer. There is a reason why most horror games are so short, because the devs of those games know that the fear factor isn't going to last for long. Resident evil 7 was a scary experience at first, but now here I am on my 50th speed run attempt where any horror the game originally had is gone for me.
Secondly these ideas for making the game " scarier" are more of just an excuse for people who want to make killers ridiculously overpowered. There is a difference between making a killer strong and fun for the people playing as and against the killer, and just making the killer so easy to play that its not even a challenge. This game needs to focus on actual balance, not " horror" balance. Focusing on making one side the power house in ever match no matter how skilled the person actually is, is not how you keep people playing this game.
This is just what I think of the "Its a horror game" argument and would like to hear what others think.
