New Killer Idea: Naagloshii (The Skin-Walker)

I would like to preface this post by saying that I am new to dead by daylight. If there have been posts that have covered a similar topic prior to this or if I am breaking any rules of the forum, I apologize! Also, I welcome any ideas/feedback that would make this better balanced or flow better in game. (I am posting this on r/deadbydaylight as well)

Name: Naagloshii (ie. The Skin-Walker)

Background: Naagloshii are evil witches from Navajo culture that are known for being able to take the shape (or skin) of different animals. It is said that these individuals are able to possess or walk around in the bodies of live animals and people that they make eye-contact with.

Visuals: Naagloshii have been depicted in many ways ranging from entirely animalistic to an evil shaman/witch aesthetic. I think cross between the two aesthetics would be an interesting angle to aim for but I am not artistically inclined so I am unable to draw something on my own…A quick google search provides some good examples. (I don't know the rules of this forum so I don't feel comfortable posting links to random websites)

Disguise Mechanic: When a survivor is on a hook the Skin-Walker can force eye-contact with them and walk around in their likeness until the next time they move to attack. The attack made in this state is turned into a lunge where the Skin-Walker bursts forth with enough force that it rips free from its false form.

Specifics when Disguised: When disguised, the Skin-Walker looks and acts like a survivor. The only difference in appearance would be that the Skin-Walker would have glowing red eyes (consistent with its original form). While in this form, The Skin-Walker does not have a terror radius or a red light projection. The Skin-Walker is unable to work on generators and other survivor actions but can fake the action in a way that looks the same to the remaining survivors. (ie. The Skin-Walker fakes to be working on a generator so that a nearby survivor tries to join them, thus creating an easier situation for a hit/down.)

Item Interactions with Disguise Mechanic: Another facet of the skin-taking mechanic would be the incorporation of items. When a survivor is hooked and gazed upon, the Skin-Walker would also need to mimic the item they were carrying. The effects given from the mimic'd item would vary but I have some general ideas below:

Med Kit - Survivors hit by the disguised lunge would be afflicted with a bleed effect (similar to Legion)

Flashlight - When making their disguised lunge, the Skin-Walker will burst forth from their skin in a burst of light that blinds survivors in a similar manner as the flashlight blinds killers. The blind will only occur if the survivor is within a given range of the Skin-Walker AND looking in the Skin-Walker's direction.

Tool Box - Survivors hit by the disguised lunge are now afflicted with an exposed status when working on generators for the next 60 - 120sec. (Not sure about duration due to balancing. May adjust for strength/rarity of the item?)

Map - The Skin-Walker will gain vision of the survivors within a given radius for up to 20 seconds after entering their disguise. (Duration dependent on rarity of map)

Key - The Skin-Walker gains vision of the hatch and exit gates while disguised as the survivor. (Duration may be placed on this per balance or rarity of the item)

Perks: (Numbers and percentages variable for balance)

Hex: Witch's Cunning - When the killer injures or downs a survivor, the survivor's item loses 5%/10%/15% usability. If the survivor is carrying a key or map, they will lose their item after 5/4/3 hits or downs.

Growing Hunger - If a survivor has not been hooked within the last 120sec, the killer moves 5%/6%/7% faster. This perk is active at the start of the match.

Deceiver - After injuring a survivor, said survivor inherits the killer's terror radius (theme, heartbeat, and all) for 15/30/45sec. During this time, the killer has no terror radius of their own. Cooldown time of 90sec.

Hello @Sushi_and_Sax , and welcome to the DBD forums! Thanks for showing off your interesting concept. I'll give some feedback in a backwards order.

Hex: Witch's Cunning already sorta exists in the game? See:

Your perk suggestion would basically be a weaker version.

Growing Hunger is a nice idea, kinda like a Bloodlust outside of a chase, but takes too long to activate, but is also OP at the same time? 7% permanently after two minutes of no hooks is kinda crazy. How about something like this:

Growing Hunger - You gain Bloodlust outside of a chase but not in one. For each 10 seconds you aren't in chase, gain one tier of Bloodlust.

Deceiver also kinda exists in the game already. See:

Your suggestion is massively OP in comparison to Dark Devotion, as scoring a hit is fairly easy if you can hit everyone to gain the effect.

I don't think the disguise mechanic would work well at all. Survivors would not only get a massive warning from the glowing red eyes, but survivors can already tell who's on the hook and would know that you're wearing a disguise. SWFs (survive with friends / players on comms) would know and tell each other that you're disguised as well.

Lastly, I believe the devs have (unfortunately) said they wouldn't release a disguise killer, presumably since it'd be too easy to see through the disguise.
