Name one positive thing about this game
I know this is a different question but with all the negative things I see can we get some positive things. What is one positive thing that you like about this game? I have been playing since June of 2017 and absolutely love this game. It can be so toxic at times because I always play alone but I have learned alot and the game has come so far even since I started playing. I instantly loved the game because it has Myers in it and growing up Halloween is my favorite scary movie, also three months after I purchased the game my dad passed away. I was lost and became extremely depressed, this game became my only way of escaping the reality that my dad was actually gone. I started looking forward to each day when I could play. I would get really excited about ranking up and playing with other people even though I didn't know them or would probably only play with them once and then probably never again. I ended up joining a DBD tournament on Facebook and ended up meeting friends that I still talk to everyday. My point is that even though this game might suck alot to many of you, I just hope there might be a few people out there like me who the game has made a positive impact on. I definitely turned to this game after my dad passed then turning to drugs or alcohol, so thank you to the creators of the game. I will always be a loyal DBD gamer/survivor, hope to see everyone in the fog...

First off, i'm sorry to hear about your fathers passing, my best wishes go out to you.
As for "name one thing that's positive", I personally find some of the community to be fairly constructive and concise when we disagree about certain topics OR agree about them as well. I've met plenty of forum members that're really nice and kind, so even the most "toxic" areas of a community can have really nice people in them, you just have to look of course.
As for the game itself, there's a lot of things you can look at that're positive. For one, Dead By Daylight is constantly improving and gaining new content, the game can be really addicting when you have multiple scenarios to chase Survivors with or be chased by as an example. Besides the new content, I've also met a lot of nice people in post-chat and in-game as well, even some who were originally mean at the start. Not everyone will agree that the community can be nice, since they mostly see the toxicity unfortunately, but if you really play the game for awhile than you'll come to find that not everyone acts that way, some can be constructive, kind, and level headed people.
We also got a lot of balance changes to previous OP Killers such as Nurse and Spirit, but i'm sure some players will argue that those were terrible changes. We've also been given a new engine that the game runs on, The Archives (an alternative goal system), and other such small fixes that keeps the game healthy as well.
I've also personally met a lot of friends in-game that I still talk to as well. Not all of them unfortunately, but I do chat to a fair bit of them to this day and still make newer friends a long the way.
what am I getting at here?
I wouldn't focus on learning what's positive from community answers, instead you should find these answers for yourself. And hey, you've done just that by meeting plenty of friends in your story and gained a lot of good experiences from that game itself, so you're already on the right track.
Think of it like this, if you only see things negatively, than it'll be harder to see things positively.

I have a similar experience to you. I've been playing DBD on and off since mid-2016, but the last year has been extremely difficult for me and DBD has become my safe place. Playing the game and hanging around these forums gives me a sense of purpose and something to focus my energies on outside of everything else in my life. It's one of the few places I can go where I don't have to think about certain things or people that are making me miserable. Plus, I've met some wonderful people through here that it always cheers me up to be around.
It really has very little to do with the game itself, but there's just something special about DBD that I keep coming back to, and it will always be precious to me for the role it's played in helping me get through some of the most difficult months of my life.

A positive thing about this game:
I would have to say, the best thing about this game is DEFINITELY THE COMMUNITY.

I can get behind that, I love a lot of the concept art and character designs they show before a Chapter is released, it's very interesting and cool.
