it's almost as if the game knew this type of matchmaking isnt okay.

Yeah, the matchmaking isn't the best, and the Devs are aware of it, hence why they are working on a new MMR system with which ranks will become obsolete when the matchmaking is concerned. This will hopefully prevent such matches from being created.
