machinist - can close an open exit gate but the other exit gate would open , if any survivors are behind the inner exit gate that would be closed they would automatically exit the level , the timer after the exit gate was open would not reset after it would be closed

2. Would the gate still be openable?

2. yes but the timer to open the gate would reset to zero so you would still have to make the 3 red lights flash to get the gate open
