Possibly Unpopular Opinion: DBD is Great As a Casual Game

I know that a lot of us like to deep dive dbd and play with the intent, or the incidental outcome, of getting better than average or higher.

But I've been working a lot lately, and haven't had much time to just sit and play for hours. And I've noticed something: dbd is actually really great as a casual game.

Occasionally long waits aside, picking up and playing a few rounds (at least between rank 16-10) is an honestly enjoyably chill experience. As both survivor and killer.

Yeah, occasionally you get a rando bully squad. But mostly people play fair and are pretty cool. My most notable bully squad (PS4) actually invited me to their party right after to just chill and chew the fat. Not too bad.

So, I know we push back against that casual label. But... honestly...dbd does kinda seem to be at its best when you don't try to go HAM. Ignore the meta 98% of the time and just relax. Makes the game way more fun.

Honestly, I don't see how a game like this can be taken as casual. It's competitive by nature. Maybe I don't have the mindset, but, well, how?

I agree. At some point I decided to only play on weekends (work ft as well) and it works out great.

You don't get burned out, and you'll actually look forward to playing after taking a 4 day break.

If youre a solo survivor or killer main, no one will even notice you're gone.

I would argue the rng of maps and addons and items alone is why this game can't really be seen as a competitive game. Or even more importantly, that it doesn't have a clear definition of what winning and losing is. It definitely has competitive traits though, but it's not meant to be fully competitive. I personally think it's a bit of a shame too many people want to see it as a fully competitive game.

it can be causal, but with the player base being 70% ggez, bby killer/survivor, get gud, t-bagging, mori spamming, it’s kinda hard to play casual knowing someone is gonna be annoying during or outside of the match. that’s why a casual mode would be nice but the player base is too small unfortunately.

i’ll just stick to swf when I want to play casual lol
