Specifics on hatch spawn

So on my recent game, my friend and I were looking for the hatch as two randoms were dying on hook. After they die, we immediately look for hatch, knowing the one gen higher than number of survivors should spawn the hatch, but we could not find it. After he dies, I find hatch close to the place where we were waiting for them to die. Does the hatch spawn after the number of gens completed, then calculates the number of survivors alive; or once the survivors die, does hatch spawn if there is more than one gen completed more than survivors?

The Hatch will become visible whenever the number of fully repaired Generators exceeds the number of living Survivors by 1:

    • 4 Survivors remaining: 5 repaired Generators / Exit Gates are powered
    • 3 Survivors remaining: 4 repaired Generators / 1 Generator left
    • 2 Survivors remaining: 3 repaired Generators / 2 Generators left
    • 1 Survivor remaining: Spawns and opens regardless of how many generators remain.

This is a word for word rip from the DBD Wiki, i'll link my source below at the end of this comment. Anyways, my guess is that the number of Generators you had didn't meet the requirements above. If you had 2 Generators left with you and your friend still alive, than you must've missed the hatch being spawned, since it'll only spawn ONCE that 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Survivor is dead. Think of it like this, if 3 Survivors remain, than you need to do 4 Generators for the hatch to spawn, if 2 remain, than you only need to do 3. Every-time a Survivor dies, the required number of Generators rolls back by one, starting at 4 when the 1st Survivor dies.

    tl;dr

If 1 Survivor dies, than you subtract the total number of Generators you need to power the gates by 1, the total number you get (which would be 4) is the total amount of Generators you need to complete for the hatch to spawn. Keep subtracting 1 required Generator when another Survivor dies.

The hatch will only spawn AFTER the game knows that you completed the required Generators AND when that Survivor is officially dead.
