BHVR why are you so consumer unfriendly? [ANTI ALIASING]
Yesterday I tested out the PTB for the first time. Just one match. Well, engine.ini modifications aren't working anymore. To be specific, the lines to disable the forced AA and forced V-sync.
I mean, fair enough IF we had the option to turn it off in the ingame settings. But we don't. In fact, the ingame settings are still as spartantic as it was since day 1.
No real resolution settings, no true fullscreen mode, no shadow options, no AA settings, no advanced sound settings, no vsync options, no colour blind settings, no FOV settings (only to the degree which stays balanced), just NOTHING.
Thank you bhvr. Why I played only one game in PTB? The forced AA made the whole game blurry af (which hurts my eyes) plus it dips down my fps even more which hurts my brain to play on low FPS. GG I guess, 11/10 consumer friendly product.
Edit: the live build kept these changes and we are all F'ed now.
Btw bhvr, Start optimising your game already. Figure out why the r.fog=1 line in engine.ini eats up a lot of fps and turning the value 0 makes your game running smoother. Do we consumers who pay you need to do your job now aswell?

thank the people who use the ini file to gain unfair advantages.

I don't mind disabling engine.ini modifications as long as we get all these options in the ingame settings. But we don't. BHVR decides to remove engine mods but did not add ingame settings. That's very consumer unfriendly.

...what unfair advantages would those be?

Never read so much nonsense. Psychologist? No way.

A beautiful non sequitur darling, truly 10/10.

Nonsense because...? Stop barking

At least we get new skins

Wait so let me get this straight
You were changing game code to get an advantage over other players? and now are mad that you can't anymore?
I can understand frustation against the settings but being mad you can't change things to get an advantage?
4 -
Didn't know disabling anti-aliasing (which you can do in literally any other game) was considered cheating.
21 -
It's BHVR's fault for not putting an option ingame for disabling it. Literally every game has an option to disable it except DBD. You can't blame people for not wanting to play the game with extremely blurry visuals.
18 -
Cause you could transfer this to nearly every other game too.
0 -
ahh I thought op was changing the code to have a better field of view
Well in that case I doubt at this point we'll be getting that, I believe that if they introduce that the game code will break a lot of stuff, we can hope, but might take a lot of time, also since there aren't that many posts complaining about anti-aliasing
1 -
I'm sure you could tweak brightness effects and stuff somewhat but like... just add the ability to disable AA in the game already. It's been 4 ######### years lmao
6 -
What really annoys is me how they refuse to say anything about this topic. People asked so many times why we don't have options for basic stuff like these and they never give any answers. I would understand it if this was something hard to implement but especially anti aliasing is really not at all.
10 -
Idk man, those booleans can be very tricky (let's not mention how it already works within the ini file).
0 -
They implemented one of the most draconian dc penalties out there that punishes the innocent as much as the guilty and you’re surprised?
8 -
No no, OP has a point.
I, personally, do not have any issues that make me sick while playing dnd, but I know that others do. It isnt fair that others aren't able to see hooks and scratch marks or get sick because of AA. There should be things added to the game that give them a fair game. I know it would give people advantages, but dont a lot of people who want the advantage do it anyways?
Edit: also, if everyone has an advantage, then no one does.
7 -
Noone is talking about unfair advantages. Peanits confirmed these settings where allowed.
4 -
imagine unironically defending the non existent video settings
totalbiscuit died for this
4 -
What are you talking about??
0 -
It was possible to change it via some lines in engine.ini so if that is difficult for them to implement I doubt the competence of bhvr
1 -
No. anti aliasing, you should look it up, is an edge jittering fix that has existed for games since the moment they went 3d, all games have this.
DBD as well but it only supports by default the crappy FXAA which resultsin a blurry detail lacking craptastic image.
The Unreal 4 engine supports howevver also TAA, which is superior and with the file you can choose to have that on, it just cleans up the image quality.
Now if the game was actually worth a damn it would also support forward rendering and with that MSAA.
5 -
Yep, people blindly support anything of bhvr. Gaming industry at its peak.
4 -
Shut up and buy our new Meg cosmetics!
11 -
And don't forget the V-Sync. It's another thing that drags the FPS down.
But what annoys me the most is: Playing Freddy is awful with the AA enabled because the FPS drops hard on the dream world. If a survivor do a 360 around you, you can barely see which side he is going to track his movement and hit him. It makes something so simple into such an annoying thing...
4 -
Loving it, now we're stuck with the ugliest AA yet, still not a single accesibility setting for those who REALLY need it, and not the simplest graphic options that literally any game out there has.
We've got Bhvr'd people.
2 -
We're lucky BHVR isn't another Bethesda or EA. Be glad because of that.
0 -
@PatBrutal @Peanits Why can't we turn AA off in-game ? We need more graphic options please you guys need to hear us ;(. We're talking about quality of life of the game, it is important.
9 -
The thing is, I am doing an HCI (human computer interaction) course and i've learned that you can sue a company for not including a colour blind mode or make it cb friendly
Speaking of the OP, yeah, totally agree, the game MUST natively support these things without the user having to go through the hassle of changing the .ini files
0 -
google it, they dont allow for us to post about "modifying the files" here, which speaks volume about the mods understanding of game design.... but yeah just google it.
You need to add some simple text rules to the engine.ini and you can turn AA off or even better, which to TAA.
2 -
Oh yeah true I forgot about v-sync, this garbage is forced on us aswell. Now we have even less fps due to that and higher input delay. Input delay in pvp games is always a great feature omegalul
2 -
I mean I was okay with doing the editing by myself, was kinda fun for ME. But for many others it was very annoying and complicated + now even that is impossible. Bhvr is just arrogant towards us.
1 -
I know about Engine.ini, but the problem here is that after the PATCH no one will be able to disable AA through that file, that's why they need to give us the option to disable it in-game.
1 -
actually you just need to change the overriderender line for one of two other options.
I personally use [/Script/Engine.GarbageCollectionSettings]
0 -
That also doesn't work on the PTB, they disabled any modifications to the engine.ini file.
0 -
When the new patch arrives, you won't be able to do it anymore, that's why everyone is complaining about it here
1 -
Technically, there will still be a way to do it but it is basically modifying the game files at that point because it involves pak files.
0 -
BHVR definetly needs to add proper graphic options. People like me with crappy PC already need to jump through hoops to get the game to a playable state, it's not normal in 2020 to have to edit .ini files to change basic stuff like resolution and AA.
1 -
By doing that you can get caught by EAC it's not safe anymore
4 -
This works on current live build but it doesn't work in the PTB anymore.
0 -
no it will be perfectly doable with the new patch as well, again multiple lines for this sorta thing work, just need to wait for some people more knowledgebly on the subject to give us those lines.
and otherwise Nvidia has the sharpening tool that helps and we need to wait for AMD's sharpening tool to be DX11 viable
0 -
NVIDIA'S Sharpening is trash, the best sharpening we have is the one you can enable through Engine.INI

The funny thing is Deathgarden, Behaviour's now dead game, had an amazing graphic settings menu. Deathgarden also addressed the solo-SWF gap from the get go with its ping and tagging system. Was a shame that game didn't succeed. The devs who built it learned from all the initial mistakes of DBD.
2 -
I mean, anyone in pc could, and it used to be done by just setting graphics to low, then they reworked the hairs last september, making them looking horrible without anti aliasling, so I made a thread and they confirmed for the next patch a "fix" for it but that day it ended to be just the lazy antialiasling force, since then we had to do it manually in the ini files.
