Can you relate?
So I bought the game 6-7 months ago. I played my first 30 hours with 4 man swf squad, the others were as new to the game as I was. They ditched the game and now I have played 420 hours alone. I'm always at rank 5-3, once I made it to red ranks, I have never dropped past 5. (except on rank resets, but I most of the time make it back the same day). Mostly I'm stuck at rank 4.
The thing is, I still make so many stupid mistakes. I dead hard under a window and get a slow vault, I look behind me when vaulting and miss the window, I can't tell where the killer is coming from and run into it, I can't find a single pallet even when I know the map layouts, I can't make the most out of loops and realize the mistakes I made after I have used the pallet or couple..
I always played for the fun and memes. I didn't mind these mistakes at first, you know someday I'll learn, right? Well after 450 hours of playing I still haven't learned and it's starting to get to me.. Is anyone else having the same kind of thoughts? I feel like a boosted braindead headless chicken ):

Do you play Killer too? Sometimes it can help to play the Killer too to better understand their weaknesses.

If it makes you feel better, I'm pretty sure I have a magnet connecting me and the killer. If I lose sight of the killer, whatever direction I decide to go will bring me right back to them.

I tried playing killer at first but I didn't like it at all, it felt a bit too sweaty and I like having a team around me. I do watch heck ton of killer videos from different streamers and youtubers tho.

You have to always scan your surroundings wherever u go on the map, if you sit on a gen, look around to prepare for where you gonna go if the killer comes, you gotta always be alert, don't wait until the killer comes and then decide, you gotta know beforehand where u re gonna head!
For the windows, you don't need to look behind you, that way you can miss it, you can turn your camera right after you hit space to vault, that way you can look at the killer while vaulting. And most importantly, never panic when in chase, when you panic you mess up a lot, play chill.

Yes these are good tips and I'm aware of them. I always scan my surroundings (I even got my mouse sensitivity at 100% just for that) but if the killer comes around a corner or is in the cornfield, I will for sure bump into them. Might be because of I use earbuds rather than headphones tho.
And sometimes I just have to look if the killer is following me or coming around a corner when vaulting, so that I can cancel the vault if must.
I don't really know, like I know all the tips and tricks but I tend to screw up anyways at some point.

Im usually just reading through the forums, but this sounds just like me, so here are my thoughts :D. I have 450 hours aswell now and I am playing around your rank.
I'd say the best you can do is keep on playing for fun. Seeing dbd too competitive and playing for ranks only ruins the fun.
Furthermore due to the ranking system you meet players in red ranks who have played around 400 hours or less, but also those with 5000 hours or more. So in relation, 400 hours is nothing and as a lot comes with experience you naturally look like a brainded headless chicken (not that a brain makes a difference if you are a headless chicken) compared to them.
It sounds like you know the theory, but it simply takes time to translate it into practice.
All in all: stop feeling bad and enjoy the game :D

Yes that is a wonderful skill to have, especially when you manage to lead the killer to other survivors without meaning :)

Windows of opportunity can help keep track of pallets and windows and such. I don't run it all the time, but i never regret it when i do.

I've been playing 4 months, and I'm still terrible at looping. Some killers I can run decently, but a lot of them will down me quick.

Yeah I probs should work on my attitude a bit :D I'm glad there are some chill streamers like Puppers who I can learn from.

don’t feel bad we all make mistakes! you’d be surprised at the “rank 1” survivors who go down quickly, camp pallets, waste pallets, and selfcare in the corner. I make mistakes a lot but I try to learn from them and of course laugh at it, don’t ever feel discouraged by constant mistakes ok? :)
some perks i'd recommend are:
- Windows of opportunity
- Spinechill
- Alert (highly underrated)
alert let’s you know where the killer is frequently as well as letting you know where to stay away from in a chase. it also helps with mindgames as once the killer breaks a pallet or damages a gen, you can see their aura for a bit and this is really helpful in chase because you can see their movement.

Yeah I do run Spine chill with resilience so that I don't get dedicated. Maybe I should try running alert for a while, could be useful :) Thanks for the encouragement!
