Rank doesn't mean anything in Dead by Daylight
Hello, it's your favorite Legion main, tired of playing Legion and trying out some survivor.
Over my time grinding the other side of the game, I learned that playing solo survivor is absolute aids. You really get some perspective on the general skill level of the general majority of the Dead by Daylight community. Problem is, I was in purple and am now red ranks of survivor, I should not be playing with the general majority, I should be playing with the better part of the playerbase. That being said:
Why am I still getting people who run Self-Care, stand in the middle of nowhere and heal instead of doing objectives i.e. generators saving people off of the hook
Why am I still getting people who just flat out fail skill-checks on the regular
Why am I still getting people who just walk around saving sprint-burst for the chase that never happens
Why are people getting downed within seconds of the chase starting
Obviously nobody is asking anybody to just no-life the game to get good, but higher ranks should demand a better understanding of the game in order to function well in that rank. Potato survivors shouldn't be rewarded with higher ranks just by grinding games out and doing the bare minimum to get pips. Grinding high ranks in DbD should be HARDER, getting to purple, and red ranks should be rewarding, you get better games, better survivors, better killers who all actually know what they're doing.
At the end of each season instead of just resetting ranks, people should be rewarded depending on what rank they were at last season, whether it be with shards, or most likely bloodpoints to encourage people to actually do well and play the game more. Ranks should also reset back to 20 or at least 2 colors back from where they were to encourage them to grind to get their rank back. You shouldn't be at rank 1, play like 2 games and then be like, "oh i'm red rank again,"
I know the dbd devs have talked about bringing "MMR" into the game however I highly doubt this will change the solo survivor and survivor experience as a whole.
The problem is "bad" survivors are getting into ranks / mmrs / whatevers that they shouldn't be in and it rewards killers for putting in 0 effort to do well, it rewards bad survivors for eventually going up in the rankings and getting higher tiers and it punishes good survivors by forcing them to be on a team with people that are essentially sandbagging the game by not playing well. Good Survivors according to this system we have now should be zooming up the ranks but they're not, they're on a team with 3 other people and if you're not in a SWF this the quality of teammate can be all over the place from god tier survivor to potato sandbag.

Why am I still seeing people complaining about the same ######### over and over again

Because alot of people hate it. If you gave everyone clearly contaminated water when you said you'd give them water, would you expect everyone to stay silent and drink it, or to complain.

It's almost as if this is a problem that should've been fixed years ago when the game came out, but have been a persisting issue since before the game was even released

Getting to Rank 1 is a step some players can’t make. It does mean something to get there, but once you do you might realize there is an even higher level of play.
Letting other people play how they want to play is also a maturity thing for some of us. I agree there are more efficient methods of play but learning to let go and enjoy might be your next step.

The rank does mean nothing. Everyone gets to red ranks if played enough. The way they calculate the scores and the pips doesn't make sense. If I destroy a survivor team, then I get punished for it? I didn't entertain the entity enough? And if I'm a survivor who never got chased, then I get less of a score? What is this nonsense? There needs to be clear W/L conditions, none of this in-between weirdness. And add some more depth – more than just running in circles and rushing generators.
