How do you de-stress?

Lately, when the game seems to take a turn for the worst, I throw on OBS and make a cute little video out of it for my own amusement. Gives me a much needed break and makes me laugh. You?

Why did it take a turn for the worst? (serious question)

I usually play both survivor and killer, but survivor way more. At the moment i play killer only for dailys and rift challanges, because killer is way to stressing. So i relax by playing survivor.

As survivor, i started keeping statistics since the patch came out, and this put a lot of things into perspective for me.

I stop playing the game for several weeks and turn on a single player story driven game :)

    Or Civ.

Don't play this game, that's for sure. Nothing like coming home after a twelve hour shift to run into a lobby where either side trolls the hell out of you, then calls you a degenerate and to ######### for being a bad player.

Like honestly sometimes I wonder why I olay this game, that thought has been popping up more often recently.

On a side note, I love how this post is basically an ad for your channel lol. Subtle plug is not so subtle.

Tonight this was my 5th camp/tunnel match in a row. So by turn for the worst, I mean the night started out optimistic and just got progressively less fun with each match. The teabagging camp and tunnel Pig being the cherry atop my camp and tunnel sundae. LOL

I find survivor doesn't have the same opportunity for retribution as Killer, which I think makes it more frustrating for me, even though I like playing it more and am better at it. I play Killer when I want a break but still want to play or feel like the toxicity for survivors has reach a level that requires some niceties to balance it out.

I've thought it would be fun to collect some data on my matches just to see it. I like analytics. I'm just not sure which data points I'd want to collect. What do you track?

I play Nurse after a bad round.

Or I play another game where I don't get stressed, like Stardew Valley.

Is it weird that I'm bad at Stardew Valley? My farming skills are extremely subpar. 😂

I agree. It feels pretty balls to work all day and come and settle into a game you know in your heart CAN be fun, only for it to be a real dumpster fire. 😂

And I would not recommend anyone follow that channel. 🤣 I haven't streamed in a year and only recently started using it to save these little videos in hopes someone else might also fine them amusing. 👍️

i too like to make little videos to destress! i typically make videos about my demogorgon since i love my boy.

i actually plan on making a 3d animation with him at some point too, so that's just a lil thing that makes me super happy :0

I often fall down the DBD rabbit hole on YouTube. It costs me a lot of sleep. LOL

I hop on Call of Duty.

It's Shoot the Ship, so 2 very small maps and I just have fun and laugh hysterically.

I do this for about 5 hours, and it's not because Dead by Daylight stresses me out, I don't want Dead by Daylight to stress me out so I quickly switch games. I have so much fun.

    Xzan Member Posts: 907

No problem with that. i mean you can do whatever you want in Stardew Valley and people don't get mad at you because you didn't do a pretty good job so far :D

i don't have too many things up since most videos i make about my demogorgon are personal projects atm, but i do have two videos about my demo and hillbilly if you wanna take a look ^^

AND MAN I FEEL THAT LMAO

I de-stress by going in as Oni and slugging everyone early, and letting them all bleed out.

You'd be surprised how little people run unbreakabill. At least in my games.

    I stopped though lol

I don't feel stress playing DBD as I just slug-4k as killer

    and clicky clicky-spam-5gen-loop as survivor:

Or to say it differently: I just play/enjoy the game and ignore unwritten rules. If people didn't take the game so seriously no one would feel stress.

eh I tend to keep playing, you are bound to run into better matches.

Or I play some survivor and should that also prove ermm unenjoyable, taking a break and doing something else.

I cleaned out my garage, that was pretty stress relieving. Something about moving trash around so I could fit two cars in, it was a really good moment.

And then I hopped on dbd and had one of the worst games I've ever had. It's stuff like that, that really shines a light as to how unrewarding this game can be. And how someone's fun can be someone's nightmare when you flip the pov.

I definitely have a better time with a friend, the stakes are immeasurably lower, and if one or both of us have a bad game it's a shared moment, it's not festering into the next game.

I track the killer, number of kills, if i escaped, by what means i escaped (gate, hatch, hatch with key), what methods the killer employed (camping/tunneling/mori/noed/instadown (on killers that dont have them per default), as well as the rank range, as well as other comments (one killer told me he was streamsniping the other survivor, as well as dcs, hooksuicide and other means that can falsify the statistic signigicance)

I should have keep score of the map as well, but only start to do that now, because i cant remember the names. I play solo, and are thinking about keeping track of the other survivors perks (like ds, bt, the whole metaperk bunch).

Its quite intresting. My survival rate is between 70-80%, but 100% of my 4k games involved camping and tunneling, often with a mori.

A lot of the 3k games did this as well.noed isnt that often used as i expected. But then, i havnt reached the 100 games mark since the patch yet, and even then the number of games i play are of no statistical significance, and can still be an outlier. But Escapes over 70% takes a lot of stress away, even if you got a number of bad games in a row.

When I began playing dbd (2 weeks ago) I was so stressed out as survivor. Hearing heartbreat indicator made my heart race, not to even mention getting chased.

At that time I also bought resident evil 2 remake, alien isolation, resident evil 7 (I'm no survival horror player), and started playing those games when I didn't want to play dbd.

Dbd chases stopped scaring me, and I started to like survival horror games.

I hear you. I understand the concept of "its just a game" or "dont take it too seriously". I think it bothers me because I paid to play a game that I know can be really fun. And I also have a limited amount of time to play. So on nights like last night, where every single match my opponent is playing like you described - with absolutely zero consideration of others and their enjoyment as well - and I'm on the receiving end of it during the only time I had alotted to have a little fun after a long day, it's hard to brush off. If people were just mildly more considerate on both sides, more people could have a lot of fun more often.

I took about a month off the game a little while ago. The only thing that brought me back was a friend wanting to play together. Breaks are good. I wish I had more multi-player games I was really into tho. I pretty much just play DBD, 7 Days or Ark. I'd love more variety, but don't like solo play games.

This is really cool. You're inspiring me to get off my arse and get this done. :) It also might cause less frustration if even in an agonizing death I can consider it a "for science!" opportunity to collect data. 🤣

At around 4000 hours I know what it feels like to be on the receiving end on both sides - not gonna lie.

However something I noticed during my time playing DBD is that people mostly act the same no matter how I play so I don't see much of a reason to not play the game the way I enjoy it most.

As killer I really enjoy doing "4k-speedruns" and as survivor I really enjoy running the killer all day while messing with their focus using flashlights.

On a side note lately I've been meeting lots of VERY good sports on both sides.

One survivor recently messaged me saying something like "as soon as I saw the mask (I always wear Meg's face) I knew it was you! gg Bubba Sawyer"

and as survivor some killers gave me hatch after several failed matches as they probably realized all that flashlight clicking is just my desperate attempt of luring them away from my solo queue teammates haha...

Seems like the communty isn't all salty after all. Lots of chill people.

I think I have the most fun when I think everyone is having fun. Maybe I'm just a very empathetic person. LOL

When I play Killer, I enjoy making sure others have a fair shake. I go out of my way not to re-hook the same person twice in a row. I don't camp/tunnel. I don't use NOED or mori or iri addons. If I play a powered up insta-down Killer, I don't slug to maximize my power. Sometimes I opt not to death hook anyone, just to see if I can pip without it. Depends on whether or not I'm playing for fun or playing for dailies. When I get outta the match and everyone has over 22k points and had fun...thats what I enjoy.

When I play Survivor, I love having good chases. I like presenting a challenge, but if the Killer isn't having a good match - as long as I know I'll safety pip, I'll let him down me or even kill me. As will the one person who I play with sometimes, because we figure 2 in 2 out is balance and Killers deserve points/pips too. I don't teabag unless the Killer is being a real asshat on purpose. I don't clicky clicky my flashlights. If I think someone has a daily, I make sure they can get their hits or power up or zaps before I leave, etc. I'll step in a trap on purpose if it seems like Trap Daddy needs his daily. 😂

I have always loved multi-player games and having fun in groups. So, I think my enjoyment stems somewhat from everyone's enjoyment. If I crush someone else and I know if I was in their shoes it would be frustrating or upsetting...that doesn't bring me any joy.

I definitely wish more people played this game like I do. The one thing I will say is that being able to be nice is almost a luxury for survivors. It is admittedly much harder to PIP as Killer. If it were a little more even with survivors, perhaps people wouldn't feel so compelled to be toxic because they could reach their goal while playing a fun, light hearted match. Maybe not. But maybe. 😂

I play as Ghostface choose 1 poor survivor at the beginning and just stalk him or her all game and let the other 3 live. Or just meme with the survivors lol.

  • Yamaoka
    Yamaoka Member Posts: 4,321

Sounds like you meme when you see an opportunity to do so (correct me if I'm wrong). If I notice someone's a meme player I typically go along and fool around during the match allowing everyone to chill as I rarely kill someone if I decide to make it a meme match. I even have an old video sample from nearly half a year ago:

I slugged them within the first 2 minutes (speedrun-4k as usual) but when they were all on the ground they followed me through the map like a snake. It was just funny and unexpected so I ended up farming and letting everyone go.

Long story short: I can play empathetically but people need to do something random and funny otherwise I just do what my chainsaw allows me to do quickly (sometimes).

I drink and I paint Warhammer 40k miniatures.

I've been playing Warhammer for something like 10 years, and have heaps of models to paint so I generally do that outside while there's daylight and come in and play DbD a bit before I go to bed.

And for anyone wondering: Necrons, Chaos Space Marines, Chaos Daemons, Death Guard, Thousand Sons, Chaos Knights, Harlequins and Tau. I do not have a problem, I swear. Just because the minimum points that I can play is 28,000 and climbing does not mean anything.

I don’t stress myself out over a video game. It’s only a game, I don’t take it too seriously.

If I find myself losing often and having bad matches I’ll just stop playing. Just not my day.

It’s also stress-free when playing a lower tier killer like Wraith or Pig. Nobody expects anything from you, if you lose it’s just an “oh well” moment.

Playing as a killer like Spirit or Oni is more stressful due to the fact that you put more pressure on yourself to win as those killers since they’re so good and you feel like you just straight up suck if you lose.

On rare occasions, I have done salty runbacks as Spirit with an ebony and double purple add-ons. Not my proudest moment :/

  • LALYTHIA
    LALYTHIA Member Posts: 1,656

Sometimes I meme...go play "survivor pig" and "do gens" with the survivors. 😂

Most of the time I play normal, because too much memeing also makes people mad. LUL I just keep an eye on who I'm chasing/hooking and try to spread it out. If I keep crossing paths with the same, sad, injured survivor in what is clearly a group of random, I'll just keep on going and leave them be until they get healed and get back in the game. It's not all kittens and rainbows. Sometimes people mistake my kindness for weakness and try to get my attention with teabagging and flashlight clicking. Those people usually aren't afforded the same niceties. 😂
