Meaning of rank
The situation is worse than ever.
Rank absolutely means NOTHING anymore. One game I can easily 4k without a single gen done, next game my first chase lasts for ruin+3gens.
Sure, there are casual players and there are competitive ones, but please can we separate them and have a proper matchmaking

I agree, rank means nothing.

I assume it works the same on PC but on PS4 it seems to take your killer rank, multiply it by 4 and try and find survivors with rank that total that number.
So for example a rank 10 killer could end up with 2 rank 15's and 2 rank 5's.
I always find those games easier as once you get rid of the potatoes you can concentrate on the others.
I find the harder games when you get all rank 10's for example.
Maybe something similar is happening to you?

Sounds about right - for survivors at least its more a game of experience than skill.

Yeah noob here...bought the game a little over a week ago and I'm lost on what rank means. I read the warnings about how the game is fun at first with the killers but once you hit a certain level it starts to suck. I figured I would take the chance for twenty some bucks with the freddy dlc and I still feel like it was a good deal.
For me it was when I hit around level 20 with freddy that things started to suck...hehe I know he's not the best but I like him anyways. Since then I have had matches where it's fun and I average two or three out of four. Then I have others where it's no contest. I have had games where I see three generators starting up in the first three minutes of the match...then others where only one or two get turned on the entire game.
Maybe they can make the match making better...I dont know but what I do know is the match making seems to work at first before going to crap hehe. I do feel like some killers could use a slight buff but I guess I dont know enough to really say that yet.0 -
They should just revert everyone to rank 20 one last time and never reset again.
Than give a "prize" for those who are at hight rank, like permanent +50%bp/shards, spacial skin that you can use only if you are at that rank, a proper rank page were you can see your ranking in the community etc...
After a few months the rank will be back to meaning something...And that way balance will be easier since devs will be able to really see were things are broken for survivor or killer and balance them.0 -

I agree, can we PLEASE have separation from ranked and casual? Look at Smite, they do that and rules are different in Competitive.
Someone who was Platinum in Overwatch for the first competitive season playing too, the separation really matters. It's not toxic at all like people claim.
We need a complete huge overhaul on some things like loops and ranking, but hey, new dlc in a few weeks. Guess that's more important?

well what else would you want to bring meaning to ranks?
Tryhard or not there should be rewards, no1 is saying that you need to get rank 1 just cause there are rewards.0 -
People that DC 25% or more of their games for the season get put in a separate pool (poor sport crew) they can only match up against each other until the season resets. We start here and then work on ranks/rewards.

Last time I heard, they were working on implementing a "Ladder system" which will maybe add a new way to rank and hopefully be more competitive for all those who crave such a thing.
Perhaps even...a reward or some kind of incentive will also be included....but who knows.0 -

It's problematic. it won't be a scale of skill, it will show who plays this game the most. They need to create a whole new ranking system that supports competitive play, especially on skill.
In the current state of the game too, I would be very satisfied if the competitive ranking of this game excluded SWF. Solos only. Then it'd be real skill and ranking would feel more legitimate. Look at Smite, they changed it to no parties allowed, solo only. You can see the improvements on competitive play.
Again, looks like their eyes are on precious net income and not the mechanics and core gameplay itself. Mid-chapter patches are nice and consistent, but if there's THAT many problems with the game they need to look into the coding itself and how horrid this spaghetti code is, how horrible the mechanic of the pallet placement in a loop. And we don't need offended devs because it's well known spaghetti code should never be used in the first place. It's why every patch that comes out is fixing a bug, creates a new one and it's a repetitive process.
Hope, h o p e, for this game. Afterall, nobody would be playing it if it wasn't an amazing game.

It's a really simple fix: just give a 5% bonus per rank. Thus a rank 10 would get a 50% BP bonus per match, and a rank 1 would receive a 100% BP bonus per match.

True. I think the core problem with this game is the ranking system.
Good survivors play with potato ones and they die a lot. So they think the game is fine and can be balanced with a couple of fixes while the whole game has major issues.
Average killers do not want to play with good survivors so they derank purposely. Survivors in low ranks get bodied.
Good killers also derank to have more casual gameplay with their favorite killers and average survivors get bodied as well.
Survivors also don't want to play with billy and nurse all the time. Then they derank as well. This is why our games are like 5 gens 4k or 4 escape without a hook.
Survivors are a lot more difficult to get pips than killers. A lot of killers get to high ranks and lobby issues start to happen.
They should get rid of deranking. Rank 1 survivors should not be able to play with rank 15-20 survivors. Bad killers should not be able to reach rank 11-12. Average killers should not be able to reach rank 5-6. Same goes for the survivors as well.
Then they can start to balance the game. The game as it is will never be balanced while the killers and survivors do not face equally good survivors and killers.

Rank is a meme in every game I don't know what everyone expects to get out of "ranked" aside from instant gratification and bragging rights, rank has never meant a thing in any video game just an ego thing.

There should be ranking rewards for sure, or a casual mode
Identity V has both Ranked and Casual Mode, and it has ranking rewards. It's daily as well so you get something everyday based on your rank
