Got my first hate mail haha
First post to the forms while I'm brand spanking new.
Tl;dr, I was a survivor and I got yelled at by another survivor and never knew how mean they can be
So I'm a returning player to DBD on PS4, I've only been playing for a week and for the first time ever I've reached rank 12 in a short amount of time and I felt really proud of myself! Like holy hell I'm actually getting better at this game instead of getting stuck at rank 14/15. So I get into another game as a fresh new baby 12 rank and ended up going against ghostface, things were going ok, team did nothing but want to save eachother and heal eachother so I was left to do gens but who cares right? Things got tense at the end, it was me and 2 other survivors, the killer turned to camping, not face camping, just running away and coming back to scare off those who try to save because it's only smart to do that if survivors are just going to save and not do gens right? So I'm out here completing my gen since the only way to counterattack a camp is to do gens, while doing that the other survivor was watching the killer debating to do a save, too late, hooked got sacrificed and it was just me and the other survivor. At this point my gen is complete and we only had one more to do, but lord and behold the person that kept watching the killer and the killer watching the survivor hooked them. Well hell.... What do I do now? Gens were probably closer to the killer and hook, and if I try to save he'll most likely down me, if I go do a gen I'll probably get most of it done and then downed. I tried sneaking by and then.... Somebody start to message me and left me voice memos which to my thought, "maybe they're warning me because the killer is camping?"
I was dead wrong. I opened it and listened and they started with ... "Now I haven't been playing this game for awhile and I don't know if this is a new thing with survivors with LETTING THEIR TEAMATES GO FROM RANK 1 TO STRUGGLE! GREAT TEAMWORK! GARBAGE!"
This surprised me because I haven't met a single toxic player at all, yes I've came across some mean dirty players from time to time, which it's no big deal, but this, I was not prepared for.
I wrote a message saying "let it go"
Another voice memo: "just gonna let you know, you suck as survivor, no wonder you're a low rank, f**k you"
Me: "let it go"
They wrote back saying stuff like "f**k you", "you're trash", "you suck d**k as survivor", ect.
Now at this point while they kept writing and I was reading all this, the killer found me, hooked me, and I was dead.
I took a few seconds to realize what just happened and now I'm sitting there, barbeque sauce on my tiddies, with my feelings actually hurt my guy. I took the time to look at their profile and their "about me" spot just said it all.... "You're trash so you camped and tunnel"
Holy crap it was a living and breathing toxic survivor main. I blocked them back, took a 20-30 min break and decompress and started playing again.
I know that survivors can be jerks to killers and vise versa, but I NEVER knew that survivors can be jerks to other survivors. It blew my mind.
Also my first hate mail so kinda cool ig, now I'm a real DBD player yaaay
Yall got some stories from playing survivor and got other survivors hate mailing you?

Plague was at the open exit gate on the |-----| Autohaven map. I ditched with my mate, while this one chick went back for her friend on the other side of the map.
We were at the bottom left, while the hooked friend was in the top right, in struggle. Plague was at the gate with Corrupt Purge. So, naturally we ditched as it was a free escape at that point. This other chick ran ACROSS THE MAP to try and get their friend, from the gate that we were at. Got downed and killed.
Both of them died. Naturally. They then both message me telling me how I should have gone for her. I calmly explained to both of them that the hooked one was essentially dead and there was no point me risking my own ass to try and save her. The hooked one leaves me alone. This other one (who had some stupid name like BbyGirl) started to just abuse me as I'm sitting there going "She was dead. There was no point going back." with the excuse then of "she was in struggle" to which my response was something along the lines of not getting to purple by attempting saves that are going to get both of us killed as she tried to pull RANK on me, back when it actually meant something somewhat. I was mid-purple and she was low red I think. Saying how I'm a horrible teammate.
Because I have the capability to recognise a stupidly dangerous decision and act appropriately.
So I said something like I don't need advice from someone who calls themselves "Baby" and promptly blocked them.
Another one that was actually pretty civil was one where a Spirit wanted me dead pretty badly early on, and the team helped me by bodyblocking. The game went on as normal, but OF COURSE she had NoED and it proc'd. So I open the gate and ditch as the other 3 die because the Spirit slugged. With NoED. SPIRIT. One of the guys asked me why I didn't attempt the rescue, since the team had bodyblocked for me and helped me as much as possible, to which I just said that "One escape is better than a 4k. NoED was active and there was nothing I could do." I don't think they messaged me back after that.
Just have fun with it. Best thing you can do is bait them into saying something they shouldn't and getting them com-banned. Serves them right.

My first one was saying that maybe Hillbilly and Bubba having base instant-downs isn't the best thing for the game. Apparently criticising Hillbilly and Bubba is as controversial as telling the Church that the Earth revolves around the sun back in the middle ages.

Sorry you went through that 🙁 Some people might say it was fairly tame, but that kind of thing can really hurt, especially if you're not used to it and get caught off-guard.
To answer your question, I don't get a whole lot of hate mail. I've only had to report people for stuff said in post-game chat once or twice. I'm not sure if it's just that Australian PC players are particularly nice or what, but there have been many more times when I have fully expected to get hate (I have been known to facecamp someone on first hook for a challenge, for example) and instead got a "gg" or even understanding and good sportsmanship in return.

My very first time getting hatemail was my very first game. Like every noobie killer i hooked her, face camped and proceeded to start smacking her about 50 times. She wasnt happy 😆

Your first mistake was opening hate mail in game. All that did was get you killed. Besides, its better to wait so you can properly savor the gourmet salt.
Second mistake, you responded. Don't feed the trolls!
Just remember you are under zero obligation to interact with the rest of your team. Generally speaking it's usually to your advantage to do so.
Also, I am tired if the internet anonymity excuse for rude and hateful conduct. I report everything past a you suck. Maybe with consequences people would be nicer.

Yeah get used to it,this game can be toxic. Sorry you had to hear that though don't worry it'll be okay just ignore them from now on, its better to leave it alone then ponder on it.
