Nerf Oni

I find him both unfun to play and to go against but that’s just me.

Make it so he can’t just ride up against a wall and he still keeps charging, very unfun and unskillful.

Make blood not spawn as much as it does, he gets his power like every 5 seconds.

Thats all I can really say as of now, I think his play style is just boring for both sides and these changes won’t make him as annoying to go against.

I find him unfun to play too, it feels cheap when I can get a free down just because I used my basic attack before hand.

    Fun doesn't always mean balanced.

He’s a M1 killer without power like Myers but with deffault terror radius. If he has his power it MUST be stronger than most other ones in the game since you worked to charge it up. Bumping intoshit like a Billy would be stupid. Might as well play him instead. When he has it wait it out, or give him dead angles with flicking before he hits you so that he can’t land it.

He is basically a better billy once he gets his power which makes billy almost useless

How often do the orbs spawn? Maybe they could just nerf that time slighty.

Hmmm no? Does Billy needs to tank up at the nearest Mol station like Oni does from the survivor’s blood? I don’t think so. Of course his power is better, but still slower by the way.

Yeah i have no idea what is with all the Oni nerfs threads lately. Since he does have a clear weakness when using his ability. Tight turns and corners. Been able to use that to loop an Oni a fair bit on maps like hawkins. That and Oni early game is rather weak, while having a strong mid to late game. That and the longer you can deny Oni that first hit, the worst the game becomes for Oni. That and having played a bit of Oni myself, it does take some skill to aim that club, since i lost count of how many times i would hit a wall or something else rather than the survivor i was aiming for. It's not free downs as the op is making it out to be. Still got learn how to aim with that thing. That and Oni, needs to earn his power, to earn that ability to one shot. Just like how Myers needs to stalk to get to tier 3 or Ghostface needs to stalk to get that expose effect.

Which honestly, all of these nerf Oni threads just make me question. If Oni is op, what the heck is BIlly then?

This. OP you literally just need too learn counterplay, stop trying too nerf everything into the ground because you don't know how too counter him. thanks.

I don't own Oni yet. I believe this purchase is in my near future.

Yeah, I abuse the corners thing if I get Lerys, I remember one time I looped a decent one for his WHOLE power (no addons tho) in one area of Lerys using only a window and corners. People just want good killers to be nerfed, hence the Spirit and Hag complaints accompanying him.

Also, yeah, he's not easy to play, it took me a decent amount of effort to pick him up and play him properly. Oni is fine. People just can't get over the fact that he has to be good to beat them.

  • Poweas
    Poweas Member Posts: 5,873

4 seconds. I'd say it's decent, since 5 would be too long to get momentum off it.

  • GuyNamedPubert
    GuyNamedPubert Member Posts: 54

If you want me to say things to nerf him into the ground, I will.

Remove blood spawns in all and make it so basic attacks will only glive 25% blood

    Remove oni's charge

    Make oni nurse speed.

Those are nerfs into the ground, I legit said 2 things that would make oni more fun for both sides.

  • GuyNamedPubert
    GuyNamedPubert Member Posts: 54

I could say "Make it so no mither doesn't drop blood" or any perk that removes blood pools in that matter and you all would tell me to go kill myself. quit fyucking crying over small changes and play the game how it's made to be.

  • BunnyTheHutt
    BunnyTheHutt Member Posts: 1,773

He doesn't need changes though. He is fine as is and what you suggest would kill him. He'd be Deathslinger: a weaker form of another killer. Oni is fine and doesn't need any changes, just learn how too counter him.

“Make ONI fun for both sides”

By nerfing him heavily? I get complaints about Spirit and Freddy but ONI? Oni’s completely fine. Billy is still much stronger so why aren’t you complaining about him? At the beginning of the game ONI is literally just an 115% M1 killer. Play safe at the beginning and he’ll have to work his ass off for his power. Once he has his power he is very strong but there are still counters. Stay tight to sharp corners, loop around short loops and block LOS. ONI is by no means unfun or OP you just don’t know how to counter him so you’ve come on the forums to complain before actually trying to learn to counter him.

This is offtopic but is Oni hard to play for new players? I was thinking about buying him after I've leveled Billy.

    Ghostwithaface Member Posts: 594

I remember coming across a Oni a few times, back when no mither challenge was a thing. Which well that was fun times. Thankfully, i doubt anyone is doing that challenge anymore. So most should be able to learn how to loop Oni around the normal way. Since before he get his power. He is basically the same as any other killer. Just loop him normally, since you can take what you learn from other killers and use it against Oni while he is still powerless.

Yeah i think alot of people if they took the time to play the killers they hate. Would often learn or figure out, oh hey, they do have a weakness and are not unbeatable. That or look up guides on say youtube, to help learn what you should do when facing a certain killer. They would learn, oh yeah this is not some unstopable force of evil but rather a killer that has both their upsides and downsides.

If you think deathslinger is weaker than huntress, you clearly dont have a brain.

  • Ghostwithaface
    Ghostwithaface Member Posts: 594

Well here an Oni guide that should help you get a feel or general idea for the killer. Which i think in general is related to this topic funny enough. Since it about Oni and this guide does go into detail and explain some of Oni's weaknesses. Which i think would help to show Oni is a balance current, who is not in need of any nerfs.

  • Gomolazoli
    Gomolazoli Member Posts: 336

Might as well make another thread for this but Deathslinger is miles weaker than Huntress. More fun though.

I just think that his scalped topknot addon is too strong(especially combined with lion fang) Otherwise i find him quite fun to verse.

  • Mister_xD

i dont know the exact numbers, but every couple of seconds two orbs should spawn from an injured survivor.

though as someone who has played Oni quite a bit himself i can assure you that Orbs are rarely the main income of power charge. as an Oni you usually get your power from hitting people, as hitting an healthy survivor will grant you almost half of the power meter at once.

the only time you really get to use the orbs to charge up the power would be when someone didnt heal and instead worked on generators (or you found the place they did heal in, though thats obviously less orbs), as they have left pools of blood orbs right there.

another thing to note, as you mentioned Oni getting his power back very fast: how did the Oni you played against use the power? did he slug and used all of the charges he had? or did he pick up downed survivors before the power ended?

if Oni picks up a survivor, his power immediately ends, therefore the power meter wont be emptied and he can refill it starting from the point he was on when he picked up the survivor. lets say the Oni used his power and immediately downed a Survivor with it, who he also immediately picks up, that would mean his power would be roughly 80% charged already, so it wouldnt take him much blood to get it back.

if he used the power until it ran out though, he has to restart the whole process of blood collecting from scratch.

Yes his power is strong, but he is balanced, have you seen his early game O-o

  • Poweas
    Poweas Member Posts: 5,873

Yep, learnt the most effective tactic against Oni after facing survivors who used it on me.

He's not too hard, it's the fact that you don't need to hold W and can just strafe using A and D that I didn't know. Once I realised that, I mastered turning with him and he was pretty easy after that. You just need to get your head around that and figure out some demon dash mindgames.

If you like Billy you’ll like ONI but you may want to get infectious fright before getting ONI since it’s very powerful on him. As for Difficulty I would say he’s Mid-High difficulty personally, but it varies from person to person.

I do like Billy and that is why I was thinking of buying Oni. I think I will just go for it, even though I don't have best perks yet, but I'll get them eventually. Thanks!

Oni is op, I am sure that he's is in top 5 of op killers, but I am main survivor and I love strong killers because it's a true challenge Scape from him. Oni it's ok. Devs have to work with weak killers

  • SurviveByDaylight
    SurviveByDaylight Member Posts: 720

There are a lot of cheap things killers have. Abilities are one, Mori’s are another. Free kills, free downs. Next thing you know killers are going to be granted the Option of purchasing and equipping something similar to the five pieces of exodia (Yu-Gi-Oh reference for those who don’t know) where they simply spawn in and instantly win. Where just because they spent a good chunk of bloodpoints on that particular match they automatically win. It really feels like the more you spend the better your chances of winning are, the same can’t be said for the survivors. Killers have add ons and offerings that last the duration of the match, whereas survivors items and add ons are consumable yet cost the same. Why is that?

  • SurviveByDaylight
    SurviveByDaylight Member Posts: 720

You know what TrueTalent said the counter for Oni is? Don’t get hit. Okay, yeah sure. How is that not a counter for every killer though? 😂

  • Lumionesty
    Lumionesty Member Posts: 98

The counter to ONI is to deny him his power at the beginning of the game by not getting hit. This is very easily done if you just play safe. This is because before ONI gets his power he is literally just a basic M1 killer. This cannot be said for other killers. So your goal is too keep him in his M1 state for as long as possible by playing really safe. So Tru3ta1ent’s counter is correct, but you left a part out of it. This supplies ONI with a very weak early game which is his weakness.

There are a lot of cheap things on both sides.

Survivors have Keys and killers have Moris.

Survivors have DS and killers have NOED.

You can keep on going on. Recently the devs have been doing a great job at balancing the game. Recently god loops were removed and some maps were tweaked meanwhile, fast vaults no longer rubber band. Both great changes for both sides. Imo all they have to do now is rework Moris, Keys, DS and NOED. Then the game will be a pretty great spot. As for abilities? How are Killer abilities cheap? Isn’t that what makes each killer unique? The game would so stale if there weren’t any killer abilities. If all killers were just 115% with nothing else the game would be garbage and killers would have no chance.

You’re add on point is strange. Both killers and survivor lose their add ons after the match. Killer add ons effect their power meanwhile survivor add ons effect the item they’re being paired with. They both last the duration of the match. It’s just that a lot of survivor items have limited use. But that’s supposed to be that way. Should tool boxes and med kits have unlimited charge? That would be absurd. And other then keys they’re not consumable. If you exit the trial you keep your items.

You seem to be be trying to imply that the game is really killer sided when it’s not. The game is more balanced then it’s ever been.

I rarely see Oni on PS4. If anything he needs something to encourage people to play him, not a nerf.

    Ghostwithaface Member Posts: 594

Yeah i remember it took me the longest time to learn, i don't have to hold w while using demon dash. I can be a bit of a moron sometimes, when it comes to figuring out things that should be very simple.

  • djsponge10
    djsponge10 Member Posts: 349

Oni is literally an M1 killer with a power that takes a really long time to get his power. Unless you find a dumb survivor a gen will get done 9/10 times before he even gets his short power. It’s a very strong power yes but you only get it for a VERY SHORT TIME and every survivor you down with it it chips off a huge portion of your remaining power so realistically your power is super short. Only high skill level players can utilize his power to full potential. Oni is not only super fun but extremely balanced. He’s not cheap you can counter his dash by running through smaller loops.

  • djsponge10
    djsponge10 Member Posts: 349

instead of telling you what I think of your opinion of deathslinger being better than huntress, can you first please explain how you think deathslinger is better than huntress? I can agree he has a shorter chase but that’s really it. His range is 18m, huntress is infinite as long as you have the skill like Scott jund. Maybe you believe deathslinger is better because you can actually hit people with his gun but can’t hit people with huntress’ hatchets? Just a thought.

So, nerf a killer because he's unfun and... Unskillful? You do realise that he is extremely loopable, right? As in barely-better-than-Myers levels of loopable. The only unique thing he HAS at loops is his ability to slide along large walls to mindgame a little, but you want to get rid of that? Sure. Makes sense. Nerf Oni. He should be Myers that picks up blood instead of stalking.

The only thing wrong with Oni is the way his attacks look visually. So many times he will visually miss by almost 45-90degrees yet still get the hit/down. I was a huge fan of Oni post ptb release, more so than I am of him in his current state. But that being said, I don't see that as an issue because he is still counterable both outside of his power and inside it. The visual animation of his attacks is the issue with Oni. It can make timing pallet drops tiresome and also can feel frustating to see over and over again
