Coming from a new player, what is the point of doing nothing during a game?
I’ve actually had this game for quite awhile on Switch, but recently really started getting into it the last few weeks, and am really having a great time for the most part. Mostly I’ve been playing survivor, but have finally got the courage so to say to try killer, and I’m actually having fun with it as well.
The last two matches though, I just don’t understand it. It consisted of a few survivors barely doing anything....especially the last one I just played. It seemed like everything was playing normal, and it was a great back and forth game. I had it down to two survivors left, and even made it a point to not face camp once during the match. There were two gens left, but the other two players barely did anything. I would get a few chases in on them, but I admit, the one especially was a good looper (and I’m really a new killer). I would finally get in a hit or two, and the occasional hook, but the match went on for over 45mins?!
The last two gems sat untouched for the longest time. At one point I actually had to walk away to say goodbye to my daughter that stopped home for dinner, ran back up 5mins later, and still nothing was touched. I finally found and hooked one of the last two, and then the other finally escaped ending this game that went forever.
as a survivor, I’m always trying to do gens or help unhook or something....why play a game and do nothing?

In that particular situation, it's two survivors trying to play chicken with one another. Survivor A is hoping Survivor B gets bored and tries to do an objective so that you kill them while Survivor B is doing the same to Survivor A. That way the not-dead one can jump the Hatch

In my experience, it's usually one (sometimes both) survivor(s) that busted their ass to get that win and they don't want to give up because they feel the deserve it more than the other person. I
When this happens to me if I know first hand, without a doubt, the other survivor did nothing to help during the match (I use Bond), I'll run the killer to them after waiting a bit if they don't end up getting caught. Why should they jump the hatch when they squatted from one hiding spot to another the entire match?
If I know the other survivor played a good game in the match by getting to the rescue first, by always seeing them on a gen and etc, I'll take the hook because I'd rather head into another match and know that they deserved it too.
If I am killer and this happens, I'll leave the survivor alone that I seen on gens the most, that evaded me in chase and etc. and I'll go look for the other survivor (which almost always leaves run marks, or quick vaults to give away their location). Of course, there is another instance when one of the two left was being a jerk the match and spamming me with a flashlight when I wasn't even chasing anyone, or will continuously pallet vault for a solid 5 minutes even after I walk away. Then the other person gets the hatch regardless.

It always boggles my mind that even in games where players quickly respawn people get really afraid to risk themselves for any reason at all. So I can only assume that in dbd these poor pitiable souls have been traumatised and terrorised so badly that they are afraid to do anything for fear of being slaughtered like cattle.
