How can we make ranks matter?
I don't want to get into the argument on whether rank truly matters but I do think ranks are too easy to gain or lose due to people other than yourself.
My ideas for improving rank:
- Increase rank range, maybe to 50 or maybe go overwatch style SSR as broken as that is, I still prefer it.
- Killers need their own rank. I know this will be a touchy subject but most killers are simply not the same. Just because you can play spirit at rank 1 doesn't mean that you could play Billy at rank 1. However, I do appreciate that game/map knowledge would heavily influence your skill. My compromise would be to set all of your killers at an average rank, maybe 10 and let it go from there.
- Instead of rank reset, I would take another leaf from overwatch ( I know they didn't invent these, it's just the most recent game I've played with these systems) and have seasons with placement matches to give you a starting rank. You get placement matches based off you previous final rank of the last season (some higher rank and lower rank matches too) and they give you an average which will be your rank.
If you agree, would change or have other ideas I would love to have a discussion.

The individual killer rank is a good idea. I'd like to see some rubber-banding so that a rank 1 hillbilly will drag the average of all his other killers in that general direction but then if he plays Nurse and sucks, his Nurse rank will drop appropriately.
To be honest I'd just like survivors to be mainly judged on how they deal with killers. Escapes, rescues, heals and hitting skill checks are not particularly skilfull. I'd also like to see SWFs face killers higher ranked than if they were playing solo (where possible).
Most importantly, pipping needs to be more difficult in general for survivors and killers should never get a black pip for killing everyone too efficiently. Yes the survivors may have been trash, but an efficient 4k shows the killer maybe should be at a higher rank than the survivors they faced.

The problem with pipping is that It doesn't award you for a specific playstyle, If anything I'd say it assist toxicity since people want to try and annoy the killer just to get a few chase points because they capped in objective. Likewise, instadown powers like the chainsaw brothers and GF can be punished because they don't cause chases and they skip a hit. I'd say Trapper gets punished most if people walk into his traps since a chase doesn't even start.
DBD has the same issue Overwatch and other objective based games have where they award stats over efficiency.
