Devs, when Crossplay comes, will we be able to turn it off if we want?
The reason I ask is because I play on PS4 and I don't trust PC players, they're tech is faster and hackers are a issue. I'd be ok with Xbox, but if I wanted to turn off crossplay with PC players, could I?

At worst, this would defeat the entire point of cross-play. At best, it would toss you into a queue with a bunch of other opt-out people from your platform, and your queue times would be even longer.
I've played for over 1,700 hours on PC, and I cannot recall more than maybe one or two cases where I suspected someone was hacking. Not saying it isn't an issue, but it isn't extraordinarily prevalent, at least in my experience. Tech-wise, plenty of PC players use gamepads and do just fine, I think it's a matter of preference and comfort more than anything else. Frame rate might be a legit tech concern, but that will probably be a less critical point once the new consoles are out.

Much like the current one between steam and windows store on pc from what we know now there will be a tick box to disable crossplay.
3 -
Hope so
1 -
Yes, I've heard it will be an opt-in feature. I'm not sure if you'll be able to disable crossplay with specific platforms, though, or just in general. The latter seems more likely.
3 -
Opt-out feature. Very different.
1 -
Well, I couldn't tell you, I don't actually remember which word was used. The only thing I do know is it will be optional.
2 -
I don't know where/if they have specified anything in detail about the forthcoming cross-play, but the Steam/Windows Store option is opt-out, which means everyone has it enabled by default, unless they take steps to disable the option. For cross-play to have any sort of meaningful impact, it would have to be opt-out.
I don't understand the people who are wanting to opt out of this, though. The majority of the other players on your platform will not pay close attention, and just be happy for the better matchmaking and queues. If you opt out of it on, say, Xbox, you would be stuck queuing only with other Xbox players who have opted out. This would make your queues take forever. Why would you want this?
1 -
You could but then matchmaking times would be increased x10 for you

I’m on ps4. Cross play with other consoles is fine. But I will not play against PC players. Let’s be honest, it’s not the same. Plus hacking etc is more likely on pc for obvious reasons.
1 -
Some people would prefer long queues to what they perceive as unfair matches. Personally, I'm not convinced that the game is so much easier on PC that console players would be at a dramatic disadvantage, but I think that's the idea behind it for those who do want to opt out.
2 -
Agreed, it's not as dramatic as a lot of players are implying.
3 -
Im not a tech person so idk how bad the difference is, but I don't see no harm in being able to opt out of cross play with a specific platform. Judging by a lot of things I've read on here, it seems console gets s**t on a lot, like why are we just making sure one platform is good (PC). Opting out of cross play all together leads to long queue times and opting out of specific platform will be longer too, but obviously its worse opting out of all of them. Y'know?
0 -
Opting out only for specific consoles won't be possible, I'm ready to bet real money on that.
The difficulties and technical costrains that would derive from that option are NOT solvable without creating massive inconsistencies.
Picture this:
You are a PS4 player, and you want to play only with PS4 and XBOX players for whatever reason
I am also a PS4 player, but I'm fine with playing with everyone because I want to have shorter queue times
Jake is a PS4 player that wants to play only with PS4 players
Since we are all on PS4, we get matched all in the same lobby, but we are missing 2 other players to start the match, and those players could only be from PS4, since Jake doesn't want to play with anyone else.
Result: Jake (who is fine with longer queue time) gets what he wants, me and you have to wait more to start a match because of him.
Inb4: ceating different pools of players for each combination of the matchmaking would split even more the playerbase, creating longer queue times for everyone.
It is easier (for the devs) and better (for the community) to have only a YES/NO option for crossplay altogether, like what we have now for Steam / Windows store
1 -
Pretty sure there's a check box in the settings to turn off cross play in preparation for Cross play being live.

People who want this level of granularity seem to think there's some kind of magic bullet solution that will make all these different fantasyland queues OK for everyone. If it were that easy, we wouldn't be talking about this in the first place.
0 -
I know, not everyone has sufficient knowledge on the topic to understand these kind of issues, and it's fine, not everyone is tech-savvy
0 -
Yes, it is opt-out. It defaults to on since it mitigates queue times.
14 -
OP don't worry about it. They're also talking about making your progression transfer from each platform. You could switch to PC easily in that scenario. And, as others have said, hacking is pretty rare. (I've been playing a lot for 3 years on PC and have only seen it 3 times, so that's basically once per year.)
0 -
That's nice to hear. Do you have the tools to let us disable crossplay with specific platforms?
Like, i have no problems to go against other console players for better queue times, but i don't want to go vs. PC players as a console killer.
1 -
I see what you're saying
0 -
So what platforms will be able to play together?
PC with PlayStation with Xbox with Nintendo?
0 -
This is true but in my opinion cross play across PS4 and Xbox shouldn't be an opt out opt in situation because it's essentially the same game, however the option should be to opt out of playing with PC players. Console cross play should be default
0 -
I think the better question is, Will we be able to disable some platforms vs others?
Some people believe PC players to have an advantage over Controller players.
I have played with both, im not convinced, but some people do.
0 -
They have already stated it's all or nothing. You cannot pick and choose what platform you crossplay with.
1 -
the least you could do is source the claim.
0 -
Maybe they could do something like that, I don't think they will because you have to decide how you want to include the Switch in the "Console" group.
Switch players could not be comfortable playing with PS4 and XBOX players because of the same reasons PS4 and XBOX players are not comfortable playing with PC players, so it's better if they leave an ALL ON / ALL OFF option.
Before saying that playing against PC players is going to be hell, please wait until you have tried it for some time, I think you won't feel much difference.

He answered your question, bro. Everyone knows that “custom” crossplay options would be a programming nightmare... it’s not going to happen.
Opt-out or bust.
1 -
So you want to shun pc players into their own little island when your platforms are the onrs that abuse comms the most.
0 -
Console crossplay I would use.
Console to PC crossplay I will always opt out.
0 -
I dont want to be destroyed by PC players please. Thank you devs.
0 -
enjoy your hour long queue times.
1 -
PC players don't have a significant advantage over console players in a game such as DBD.
2 -
I'm pretty sure they do. But I do not have a pc to proof it. But many streamers that play pc say there is with movement differences from keyboard to controllers
0 -
For survivor there is practically no difference.
A PC killer that relies on aim like Huntress can be better than a console Huntress but they are never competing against each other so it doesn't matter. It's not like any of those killers are OP on PC anyway.
1 -
There's no difference when it comes to being a survivor but most killers, such as myself, find it harder to aim on console and so it's easier to be 360'd.
0 -
I've yet to get long queue times.
0 -
Didn’t think it would have to be explained but ok.
Right now cross play is not rolled out. This means everyone on your platform is matchmaking in the same queue. When you opt out I assume it would be similar to how pc platforms operate now between steam and windows store. You get matched by default with everyone but if you opt out you only get matched with people who have opted out of crossplay. Turning it off would only matchmake you against people on the same platform who have also opted out.
i assume a large amount of console players won’t bother changing back the option so when everyone is migrated over then the game queue times for your specific platform will be insanely slow as you would not be matched against the current pool
0 -
Because cross plsy isn't out. If you disable it when it is youll likely only get matched with the few people opting out since on is default.
0 -
You seem really intent on putting down my decision to opt out eh?
0 -
Sounds great.
I'll still be opting out.
0 -
No one is telling you to opt in.
Just be aware that you will experience longer queue times if you do, and no one but you will be accountable for that.
Simple as that.
0 -
I don't want PC survivors thinking I'm a mediocre Nurse, so no thanks to PC players!
0 -
i don't understand that i use controller on pc all the time play just fine.
0 -
Hmm, let me see. Console has HUGE fps drops, no optimisation, and low fps. PC has, stretched resolution, mouse and keyboard, high fps and hacks. If that isn't a significant advantage, I don't know what is.
2 -
I couldn't imagine playing DBD on a Joycon, lol. I can barely play any game with it tbh. And mine have got the drift issue so many times it's a joke. So did my Pro. Xbox has nice customizable controllers. PC has mouse and keyboard. I dunno. I don't care for crossplay for many reasons. I don't even know anyone that plays the game. My friends all seem to think it's too hard or something. I try all the time to get them to play.
0 -
Console killers have huge FPS drops, survivors don't. Most "fps drops" you see on DBD are server related and both PC and console have this issue.
Stretched Res and hacks are not very common and considered cheating. you know cheaters can already force themselves in console lobbies?
Mouse and Keyboard doesn't provide a huge advantage in DBD like it would a twitch shooter. For survivors there is practically no advantage one way or the other.
The game is hardly optimized on PC either. The new graphics might fix that on all systems.

Yes I know. My original post was simply that I would be opting out of console-PC, and since posting that have gotten nothing but people being negative, much like this post. At no point did I say that anyone was saying I needed to opt in.
Literally go back and read the original post I made and see where all this random negativity came from. Its baffling yet somehow not.

A statement without a Source for evidence is a baseless assertion.
0 -
Considering the opt in/out button already exists on the pc version it isn't really baseless.
1 -
I don't see the "negativity" honestly.
You said you were going to opt out for crossplay with PC, someone made a remark about the fact that your queue times will be longer because of that. The remark could be seen as "aggressive", yes, but the concept stays the same, it's not negativity.
As I said to someone else, my suggestion is that before opting out because of some kind "prejudice", you could try it for some time and see how it goes for you.
