A Healthy Deathslinger Terror Radius discussion
(HELLO FELLOW DBD PLAYERS- I am a Rank1 Survivor AND a Rank 2 Killer. I been playing since before Ghostface came out. I play survivor more because its just less stressful overall.)
The Deathslinger is a great addition to the roster of killers but i feel like he's strong but for the wrong reason. I have 2 Points id like to address for this discussion. I ask that we be chill ,no rude comments please. Im trying to figure out if Deathslinger is actually a good, contending killer or if his power just sounded cool on paper and turned out to be a technical disaster( like legion, where the devs couldnt work it out like they imagined. )
1.) I think his terror radius HeartBeat is way too close to the terror radius Music. I mean, by the time that you hear deathslinger Music, you are practically hearing the HeartBeat which means hes already in close range, close enough to get a reel in ,he may just walk up on you, unnoticed. So, I would say hiding from him is very difficult, especially on short notice. And if you're working on a gen thats over 60% done, YOU WILL NOT HEAR HIM COMING.
HOWEVER. I believe he's very good at chases. I think he's up there with the best, when it comes to ending a chase; he is difficult to shake. I play against him like i do the doctor but I just I completely avoid windows if i can help it. (STAY AWAY FROM SHACK, SURVIVORS lol)
With this being said, I feel like alot of survivors, good and bad, are feeling like they are being gypped out of their first hit. And, in the midst of the ambush, are left usually confused, angry, and exposed to a follow-up attack. The final result is usually being downed within the next 30-45 seconds, IF they are lucky.
Yes, I understand that he emits a high pitched shrieking sound from his sights while zoning in while aiming. But quick scoping is actually a thing you can do here; and with some practice, can shoot with little to no sound at all. I believe Deathslingers everywhere are starting to realize this.
Yes, I am aware that spine chill would completely take care of this issue. (But In MY OPINION is a perk only beginners to intermediate players should use ,otherwise, wheres the fun in that?)
Yes, I am aware that Huntress has huge projectile range than can hit survivors from across the map. But She hums which completely telegraphs the fact that survivors need to watch for flying hatchets (Which I think is completely fair for a ranged killer)
(*Peoples reaction time and playstyles vary. Its not fair to say to everyone "get gud" . SOME GAMERS DONT HAVE ALL OF their fingers, senses etc. Some gamers arent even playing this game competitively. ALOT Of Gamers cant even efficiently simultaneously look one direction while running in another, let alone while being chased by a sentient monster *)
Yes, I am aware that Deathslinger has no sense of Gen pressure but THIS brings me to my 2nd point.
2.) Legion, Trapper, Bubba and Clown (forgive me if i missed any) have been given the finger by the devs and killers who main these guys have been told to make ends meet by scraping by using whatever little tips and tricks we can get our hands on. But this NON-STEALTH killer gets a reduced terror radius (HOW IS THAT FAIR TO ANY OTHER KILLER? SERIOUSLY) AND a LONG to short RANGED weapon that can pull survivors back to him. This weapons range is 18 meters. Think about it in real life for a sec (because the devs use real world dimensions for scale in dbd) THATS about 60 ft! YOU EVER SEE a 60 FOOT SWORD? Now, it never seems that way because deathslingers never really shoot that far away but trust me, it goes far. Anyone whos been downed by his addon that is used from long range will know what i am talking about.
On the other hand AS a Deathslinger, im practically winning every game, 3 kills a game. Sweat-free. (which im happy with) I think hes a good killer but i dont FEEL like a good killer when i use him tho because I KNOW his TR is moderately reduced. I want to feel like a Bad-ass cowboy from the Old West who lassos survivors in to their doom, not some old man whos upset about people (survivors) parking in his handicap spot (handicap referring to his reduced TR) (it was a bad attempt at a joke. Move on.)
And Nobody thinks he's better than huntress. But im saying killers DONT have to compete with other killers - Its ok for him to be better or worse than her, THERE IS A DIFFERENT FLAVOR OF DEATH FOR EVERYONE!
My suggestion would be just to give him a hum like Huntress but make it like Jingly Keys or something unique like a whistle. ANYTHING. Addons are the real meat behind any killer. Every killer knows that. For the people who think Deathslinger should be untouched, just rock the addons that would give him the reduced TR that you are used to.
This is my first post and id appreciate it if we could all be MATURE when talking about the mature-rated game we all love and not smug turds trying to declare what they dont like about what im saying and trying to insult me within the same sentence. Im looking for some insightful feedback, just help me understand. Why such treachery is allowed?? Lol

Afew things to point out here... You mentioned him having a lack of map pressure. This is because he moves slow and has no movement based abilities. in that sense, his map pressure is actually LOWER than the killers you mentioned, who all move faster than he does. As far as TR goes, its pretty normal for a 110% killer to have a smaller than average TR. Every killer with 115% movement speed has a 32 meter TR while the 110% movement speed killers have smaller. Nurse and Myers are the exceptions here.
As far as trying to use IRL measurements... I wouldnt bother. This is a game where survivors are running slower than a killer walks. If we're to take everything at face value...Myers is walking 15 feet per second, lol.
Also to point out something you brought up, Deathslinger's music IS the TR. It makes perfect sense that you dont hear the heartbeat before you hear the music. This is the case with alot of killers nowdays. When your inside the TR of Demo for example, you'll hear music.
You mentioned spinechill, but dismissed it by saying its a perk for new players and something that should be discarded. I couldnt disagree with you more. The perk is great for alerting you of when a killer is coming to your area in cases where you might not have line of sight. This is apparently screwing you over alot in the case of deathslinger, but it has the same effect with any killer that can hide their TR whether that be via perk or ability. We're about to get another perk that lowers TR with Pyramid head, so I'm willing to bet you'll run into this more often. I'm also willing to bet alot of the deathslingers your facing are selecting monitor and abuse for the sole purpose of closing in on survivors without them noticing til theyre closer than you feel comfortable with, lol.

If his Harpoon range was tied entirely to his terror radius I wouldn't mind but the fact most deathsligners play to have the terror radius the size of a literally pallet and can snipe you well outside of it is asinine asf and the reason I refuse to play any match with a shitslinger in it. I let my team know I'm not playing out a shitslinger match and they usually all agree same because either his terror radius is going to ######### you or latency is going to ######### you.

I really don't see a problem with his terror radius. I've played against many Deathslingers (and I haven't used Spine Chill in months) and am rarely caught off-guard when I'm paying attention, even on indoor maps. I actually enjoy playing against Deathslingers BECAUSE he can get close to you and jumpscare you with a harpoon gun shot! I honestly feel like he's what Huntress should be -- doesn't make sense that Huntress has a 45 meter hum that gives away her position to her "prey", as well as the loud "ching" whenever she has a hatchet ready....
I think he has a small terror radius (smaller with addon) because he would give Survivors FAR too much of a heads-up with a larger TR. I mean, I've been able to successfully evade Deathslinger with his normal TR just by running as soon as I start hearing it, and I can't even imagine how bad he would be with a larger TR.
Huntress can still do fine with her hum because her hatchets have infinite range (and a larger hitbox), while Deathslinger has limited range, has to reload after every shot and can easily be dodged due to the smaller hitbox of the harpoon. Giving Survivors more information as to Deathslinger's whereabouts would be quite detrimental, as his strength lies in his ability to catch people off-guard and taking that away would result in a FAR worse version of Huntress.

First mistake you make is that you assume he isn't a stealthkiller, he is and he needs it. He has the same speed and terror radius as the hag but without the ability to teleport around. He needs that sneaky first hit
Also this comment "YOU EVER SEE a 60 FOOT SWORD"
You do realise it's not a sword right? It's a harpoon gun. For a irl comparisson the Jarmann harpoon rifle had a firing range of 300m or about 984 feet, that didn't have the retractable chain ofcourse but it's really not that much of a stretch to think he can shoot a measly 18 meter
As long as survivors adept and play differently when they face him he's fine. If they keep trying to do the same thing that they do for other killers he's very strong yes but that's not a deathslinger problem

As Deathslinger main I think he's well balanced and doesn' really need changes but yes his terror radius even when at 24m which is normal for all other 110 killers can be misleading due to it beiing rather silent for a ranged killer. Although if his TR was raised to 32m it would need to be compensated by increasing his base numbers (relod time, missed shot CDR, etc) slightly and reducing the effects of addons with the same benefit to prevent unhealthy stacking.
Such change would be fine imao as long as it's not solo nerf but a change with advantages and disadvantages.
