Idea for generator rework
Gas cans spawn around the map in random locations. the survivors see the aura of the cans when within a 10 meter radius. Survivors have to bring 4 gas cans to each generator to power it. The killers can interfere in this process by downing any survivor carrying a gas can. Once a survivor carrying a gas can is put into the dying state, the killer can then "kick" the gas can over spilling all the fuel inside. The killer cannot kick any gas can that has not been touched by a survivor. The gas can will respawn in a random location two minutes after being kicked.
The number of generators required to escape are reduced from 5 to 4 and the total number of generators are reduced from 8 to 7. Fueling a generator takes 10 seconds, skill checks will still occur during this time. Missing a skill check causes you to spill gas wasting 5% of the total progress and to "grunt" loudly alerting the killer to your location. If a killer interrupts you while filling a generator or the action is canceled. Any progress made towards the generator will remain.
When a survivor uses a toolbox on a generator any progress made by the toolbox will not be added until the next time the generator is refueled. The killer is alerted whenever a survivor uses a toolbox on a generator outside of their terror radius. If the killer manages to kick the generator before it is refueled any progress made by the toolbox is instantly reverted.
Killers cannot see the aura of the gas cans, though they can still see the aura of all generators. Kicking a generator no longer regresses progress but reduces the amount of progress added to the generator the next time it is fueled. (Instead of fueling 25% of the generator, it will only fuel 20%.)
16 gas cans will spawn, gas cans cannot spawn within a 10-meter radius of any incomplete generator. When picked up, gas cans will replace any item you are currently holding. When empty the gas can will be rendered useless and the aura will be disabled. If used but not empty the aura will remain. One gas can will "refuel" after 5 minutes if no progress has been made towards generators during that time, afterwards, a gas can will refueled every two minutes until progress is made towards a generator
Here are the changes I would make to perks that effect generators.
Prove thy self: increases the amount of fuel by 5% added to a generator for each survivor refueling it.
Spine chill/resilience: reduces the time it takes to fuel a generator though adds no extra progress
Thanatophobia/dying light: increases the time it takes to add fuel to a generator though doesn't reduce the progress added.
Pop goes the weasel: After hooking a survivor, the next generator you kick causes the survivor who refuels it to spill 15% of the gas.
Surge: after putting a survivor into the dying state, all generators in your terror radius are damaged. Causing any survivor who refuels them to spill 5% of the gas.
Hex ruin: all generators are affected by hex ruin, while a generator is not being repaired it will immediately be damaged causing the next survivor to refuel it to spill 5% of the gas.
Perks effecting item consumption do not effect gas cans.
P.S
I think we can all agree that generators are not fun. They're more of a chore to patrol or work on. The idea behind this rework is to force the survivors and killers outside of their comfort zone and to reward great stealth/teamwork along with great map pressure. The best parts of dead by daylight is the interactions between the survivor and killer, so forcing more interactions makes the game more fun. However unlikely this rework is. It's still a fun idea to think about.
Also sorry to anyone who had this idea before me.
