High Rank Killers and Default Cosmetics

This is just an interesting observation I've noticed. Playing at red rank survivor lately I've noticed a lot of the killers I go against (these are killers at red ranks I'm talking about, not the random yellow or green ranks I'll still end up getting sometimes) are only wearing default cosmetics or at most one of the really old DLC cosmetics.

I'm curious why. There's probably numerous reasons and it's more understandable seeing default on Licensed killers but even on Original killers I noticed this more and more.

Same goes for Prestige, I've noticed a considerable lack of Prestige cosmetics at high ranks. It's straight up default.

I actually was (I play both sides relatively even now) a killer main at one point and maybe outside of Bubba I'd either wear prestige or just cosmetics I like that I bought with shards or earned from the rift. I play a lot so I earned quite a bit. I could see casual players only really having default but if you can get to red ranks I assume you have some time and experience under your belt (skill is a different story).

As a red rank player on both sides and have been playing for a while I only have 1 bought skin in the entire game and that’s the scoops Steve skin.

I just never thought buying a lot of cosmetics was worth the purchase especially as killer. As killer the only meaningful cosmetic to get is the weapon because you can actually see it during the match. All the other pieces except for a bit of your hand is only visible to the survivors. I’ve just never seen the interest in buying killer skins. Even though some of them look sick, as a killer you don’t get to see them in game. As for prestige it’s not worth it for the reasons I listed above. Having to grind for blood points for a skin which you won’t even see in game is a waste of time.

Pretending to be a baby killer at high ranks can have its payoffs ...

One reason could be that there is not much to see when playing Killer.

That really is true, you know. Killer cosmetics are mostly for the amusement of everyone else. Kind of seems silly to keep buying killer cosmetics when you put it that way, doesn't it? lol

The only killer cosmetics that really can be seen are weapons. Like, with the Doctor, I literally only use the wooden baseball bat.

I've bought exactly one skin, and it was with shards, not cells. Otherwise I've got a few of the halloween cosmetics, and that's about it. I rock the defaults or the prestiges on everyone but Doctor, whose Halloween skin is just perfection for me. Couple halloween weapons though.

Wearing default cosmetics can be such a smart move because other players immediatly think you are an inexperienced player.

This is interesting because since even when I played killer mostly I always had the mentality of "expect the worst, hope for the best." Even if I saw default cosmetics I expect people to at least be playing competently.

Translates better to survivor. Even if I see killers wearing only the glowy eyes at most I assume they know what they're doing. This is the worst game to underestimate your opponent IMO, especially with how RNG can influence a match.

As killer I only bought Hutress' black default reskin and wear it with black default bunny mask. Not sure if it helps me to disguise but I really like how it looks. Sometimes I buy weapons for sertain killers if it smaller than default one. The reason is I don't like when killer's weapon take 33% of the screen as most of Wraith's weapons. Also I don't like distracting shiny weapons from halloween events or as Doctor's weapons. So I bought him a wooden bat.
