Sexual Orientation

Freddy Krueger is pedophile who molested kids at a Preschool he worked at.

My personal problem isn't the fact that some of the characters are beyond heterosexuality. Kudos, don't really care, just like how I don't care about how David supposedly has an ex girlfriend or Frank and Julie are smashing. My problem is the big deal they're making about this with these announcements. They could've easily incorporated their life story into the lore with mentions of ex (insert gender here) lover and most wouldn't have cared.
Also, why? Why does it matter that you need to hear someone's sexuality? I promise you that most people who play this game, don't give a fly duck about who's straight or not. They enjoy the lore, but that's not why they're playing it. And lastly, you couldn't feel represented and relate to characters before such as Dwight who suffers from anxiety and wants to fit in? Or Claudette who's a science geek and loves botany? Why is it when someone's sexuality or political stance or anything outside of a character's actual personality matter to people instead of the actual traits that define a person?

mods just look this,, no good discussion ever comes of this stuff

Indeed, it doesn't matter. So why are you making a big deal out of it? All the devs said is that they had already added heterosexuality, so they were going "all in" and branching out.
1 -
Why is this divisive, but the already-present heterosexual relationships are not?

It's like there is entire tomes and entries about characters and their backstories or something being released every few months or so... Maybe I'm just going into hysterics though.

Because it's seemingly disingenuous and shallow that they feel the need to "shout from the roof tops" that they are going to represent a specific community instead of just letting their work both present and future speak for itself. They didn't have to say anything at all or at least until after the work was done on why they went back on what they previously said about leaving it open to interpretation. It feels like a crappy marketing strategy they're using to get more people playing the game. Which is whatever, you gotta hustle, but that's pretty cucked if their way of getting more revenue is to exploit a specific community for more monetary gain.

Game's not out on PC.
1 -
They never mentioned any community, though. They just said since they'd already revealed some of the characters' orientations, they were going to reveal the rest.
You would be against it because it might be done poorly? I'm guessing you don't oppose technological and societal development because it might be done poorly, nor do you oppose creative works in general, so why this?
3 -
But they did. Because if you're not hetero, you automatically fall under LGBTQ+ because everyone else who isn't straight falls under that community in terms of sexual orientation or gender. LGBTQ+ represents everyone that isn't hetero or cis. So the minute Behavior says they are going to 'Integrate Diversified Identities' during Pride Month, this is exactly who they're referring to and targeting when they speak to their audience.

I really dont care if the survivor or killer is LGBTQ or straight. If i would care about this i wouldnt play a horror game, but a visual novel.
Sexuallity isnt something I care about in a game. The only time it will piss me off is when the devs try to force it into the game.
1 -
agrees, i really don't care for the sexuality of the game, i just want to play the game, games never were like this, it was just games, a game without the pressures and worries

You don't have to read the lore if you don't want to.
2 -
Yeps. I just want to kill or survive and have jump scares!
0 -
i don't really anyway lol is just not fussed
0 -
Then it won't affect you. No need to make a big deal out of it.
4 -
Who is making a big deal? i merely gave an opinion like everyone else here has. Purely saying it doesn't bother me i just am happy and wanting to play the game not focus on something else.

Yeah I wouldn'y mind seeing a character that is gay in the game but it would have to be done right for it to work.
0 -
I completely agree with you.

Nancy isn't in 2. It's about Freddy trying to take over a guy's body and him struggling against that. The writer and the actor were both gay and intended for the story to be a metaphor for a high school guy coming to terms with his sexuality.

Wait but why does the lgbtq+ community need representation in video games I don't really understand that very much? In my experience, having an lgbt character in a game leads to homophobic slurs and can lead to targeting lgbt members. Not only that but i dont really see why a developer needs to recognize any community unless they really want to. And usually when they want to its to pull in people from that community for profit, not so much to help a cause of any kind. Idk i just see more negatives than positives coming from it especially in a game like this. If they did do it they would have to make is a killer and not a survivor because it could lead to tunneling from homophobic killers.

There's already heterosexual representation in the game, which can lead to heterophobic slurs and targeting by heterophobic killers.
4 -
You agreed with someone who said that sexual orientation shouldn't be a thing in DBD. If you truly didn't care either way, you would just continue to do what you currently doing ... Playing the game without a care in the world.
Just because they might switch gender pronouns you are not used to seeing in lore that as you already stated doesn't bother you.... isn't going to make your gameplay any different.
3 -
Heterophobic targeting? So theyre just gonna kill everyone? Im not sure how you can know someones sexual orientation outside of username and in which case that can be changed in seconds for free. Not exactly the best argument. The only real argument against my point would be "who cares" and in which case, no one should, but they do on both sides apparently for some strange reason that will always elude me. and i honestly am not in understanding towards why a character would have to be lgbt in the first place for there to be representation anyways. Why not just have an outfit across survivors and killers with the pride flags or something of that nature? Why must one of them be a lesbian or a transexual or a gay man or any of that?
0 -
"Everyone" is not heterosexual. The devs have an idea of their orientations, they were just never explicitly mentioned. Bottom line is, there are already mentions of heterosexual relationships in the lore. If you don't want sexual orientations to be mentioned, you're a little late.
4 -
Youre missing my point entirely and thats one of the problems with what youre saying. Im well aware not everyone is heterosexual im not some gay hating prick thats gonna try to tell you otherwise. Dont be an ######### an try to make me seem like im trying to target the community just because i dont agree with what you guys want to do. My point is to try to find an alternative towards making sure that everyone is safe and can have a great experience in game still. and dont go saying "oh so they all have to be straight for everyone to have a great experience? wow" because thats not what i mean at all. I just think theres a better way that having the devs come up with a specific character or lore for an existing character that overall could turn into a homophobic uproar. Outfits with pride flags would be better, username tags would be better, trading cards would work, any flare would work better. Thats what most games do and it works. And besides, every time other games have made a lgbt character its been an uproar, and not only in homophobic terms, but also inside the lgbt community its been an uproar. so no, im sorry, but i think its a bad move.
1 -
Why should we kowtow to homophobes, though? Why should their homophobia impede everyone else from having things they enjoy?
The LGBT community won't give a rat's ass if it's done properly, which is a different issue altogether that every single fandom suffers from. It has nothing to do with people being LGBT, nobody likes a poorly written character.
2 -
Guess I'm weird. I really don't care about the orientation of DbD characters. If having a gay character makes somebody feel represented in the game great. But I personally never gave any of the characters orientation a thought because it didn't really matter to me.

Yeah ok, I KNOW you have a crush on Clown. Stop lying to us! Here's a diagram of the facts at hand..
Clown: 🤡
You: 😍
1 -
It would be Jane if anybody. I'm a sucker for that booty.
1 -
Clown has a front booty tho 😓
1 -
True. But unfortunately for Clown, my orientation wouldn't work with that.
1 -
well, no, we shouldnt cater to them, but we should cater to the ones at stake, which is the lgbt community in this particular instance. But having a lgbt character is still not the best way to do that. Im sorry, but its just not.
and there actually have been games that added a character as requested by the community and the community giving them crap for it because apparently "they shouldnt have to ask" or "its almost homophobic how we are bing portrayed" or alot of other things. Its a very touchy community to deal with and theres alot of sensitivity so 9 times out of ten there will be backlash about one thing or another. If BHVR acts on this post in their best interest, honestly they will ignore it as to not even get involved because of how bad it can get for them with just one small mistake. So theres a good chance that nothing will even come of this in the first place. And thats honestly ok and no one should really care imo

Im allowed to share my opinion. Who are you to judge its worth?
0 -
Everybody knows that lore is an aspect of this game. Lore which unveils and develops storytelling for that specific character.
I don't really understand how making a gay character or essentially revealing an existing one's via a tome or something, is going to change your gaming experience.
They can still do pride event related things too. I don't understand why there have to be "limitations" when no one ever thinks that for any other group that they are catering to.
3 -
careful now, i agreed with someone about not caring but i am not allowed to voice an opinion even if i just am saying, it doesn't bother me lol
0 -
Literally nobody told you that. Drop the victim card.

Omg stop jumping on my posts like that, it was a joke, maybe have a hardy ha ha and a laugh instead of just waiting in a locker, to head on at me about something.
3 -
Technically incorrect, unless we're talking about the reboot many years later. In the original movies he didn't molest children he just killed them.
3 -
So was mine, why are you taking it so hard?

Because social justice crusaders, by their very nature, judge everyone they interact and aggressively posture toward anyone that goes against their consensus. As far as they are concerned you are "attacking" them and their entire subculture for not being on-board with everything they do. I call it how I see it, sorry not sorry folks.

(Edited my post too soon so it disappeared down the approval hole. Don't worry, I just forgot to use a pronoun.)

Ew....why the hell would I want to know where Hag or Trapper put their nasty parts?!? Save that for Rule 34 DBD please....
2 -
Alas Orin, it wasn't. But oh well.

I have as much evidence for my statement as you do yours, but whatever floats your boat.

The Freddy in DBD is the 2010 remake. So no it isn't incorrect.
