Why are games getting political now too ?
Everywhere we look, tv, movies, books, advertisements, facebook, twitter and so much more. Everything has become heavily politicized and polarized. Now gaming is joining this trend, why? What is the point, what can game companies tell us that we already arent being bombarded and shoutet at by with everywhere else.

Why are you bringing this up here? There are no politics in DbD.
8 -
Shouldn’t this be in off-topic?
as far as I know, DbD didn’t get political, did it?
7 -
because money, simple answer
3 -
Not at all. There's no mention of politics anywhere in DbD. It's not like, say, Fallout or Bioshock, considered two of the greatest game franchises of all time.
6 -
Because it generates more sales, simply as that.
2 -
Because majority of game developers are liberal, the companies are located in mostly liberal cities, and TDS is a real disease.
4 -
How is politics a part of dbd?
5 -
Yeah, some people can't help but bring up Trump everywhere, even if he has nothing to do with the subject at hand.
6 -
Wait? Now Trump joins the DbD roster? As a killer or survivor?
what will his Perk „Make America great again“ do??

LGBT identities are considered political whereas straight ones considered unquestionable, default, normal. This is, itself, political, but a form of political you do not notice because you agree with it. So when LGBT people challenge it, you percieve this as the entry of politics. You can apply this to virtually any marginalized group. This is the likely answer to your question.

I'd rather not get political. I don't know why people insist on dragging politics onto apolitical forums like DbD.
1 -
it's not, it's just a character that likes another sex
Nothing to freak out over it and that shouldn't be an issue since it has nothing to do with the game. I couldn't care less about sexuality, i want a character that is interesting and cool.
14 -
Did we just become best friends?
3 -
So firstly you're using 'political' to mean 'acknowledges the existence of non straight people' right?
My dictionary isn't the homophobic edition so the definition in mine is a tad different!
12 -
I wasn’t sure why you brought up Trump and made a joke (trying without taking one side) but I just googled TDS. Well. Uhm. I don’t get these political topic jumps.
1 -
Don't worry about it, it's just something Trump supporters say to dismiss any criticism of the decrepit old man. For example, if you were to point out his handling of the pandemic was sub-par and that's why over one hundred thousand people in the US have died of COVID-19, they'd say you're "exhibiting symptoms of TDS".

Trump has mentioned DBD but, to date, DBD has never mentioned Trump.

Can we ask mods to delete these kinds of posts? Literally no connection to the game just trying to stir a debate with no real argument.

Less glib reply:
Everything is political. Video games partipate in reflecting and shaping culture for many individuals-your personal ideology is not apolitical, chances are its just the status quo which you rush to defend the second someone a little outside of your homogenous view of the world tries to be heard.

It's a wonder to me that, when a game is moving to have lore that includes sexuality mentions (the archives), the acknowledgement that we should see something besides what is considered the "norm" (despite historical evidence that sexualities other than hetero were not only in existence for a long time but were celebrated in past cultures) is considered political. It's not political that someone who is attracted to others of their gender would like to see that represented in a game where Dwight crushes on Rose and David has an unnamed female ex. End of story.

Virtue signaling, in the hopes of getting a bigger audience. Fails most of the time, since the audience they aim for doesn't actually care, but o well.

How can you say that when dbd twitter in a very short amount of time has posted about pride month and blm ?
1 -
Is the game playable on Twitter or something?

I think it is fine if you have the possibility to reach a lot of people, that you use this influence to support diversity and tolerance. I think it is a political topic in this case as the origin of the discussion is pretty political. BHVR just didn't point at it like "there, this happened, so we want to emphasize on diversity and tolerance".
DbD doesn't need it but I think it is fine for BHVR to do so

I think people are confused. Politics by its nature is ingrained in everything. From what you eat for breakfast to what you wear when you go out. When you eat food from a company you are giving them money, and in turn, tacitly approving of their practices. The same goes for everything you shroud yourself in, the video games you play, the films you watch the bitchy things you say to your friends. Hate, love, indifference. Our lives are political. People need to stop thinking that the things they do say or think aren't. Everything and I means EVERYTHING is political. This whole "leave politics out of such and such" Is such a poor argument for anything. If you're homophobic, racist, transphobic and antisemite, or sexist. Do everyone a favor and just admit it so we can move on. Hiding behind "remove politics from -blank-" is just tiring and makes you look like an idiot. Such a flimsy facade.

Damn thats a nasty iri head huntress.

Do you have any real arguments or not to add to the discussion ?
2 -
What argument did you expect when I'm talking about the game Dead by Daylight and you're talking about a Twitter account?
3 -
The official twitter account of the company that runs the game yes where they talk about politics and how that will affect the game in the future.
1 -
It builds a wall, lol
1 -
Why are you focusing on a reply you think is off-topic rather than the valid responses to your original post? Lol
3 -
So what did they say about that? Are they including BLM protests in the game?
1 -
yeah, but it is also common sense how to distinguish when you say something is political or not. like soccer says "political messages are not allowed during the game" which would mean "nothing is allowed during the game" not even the commercials on their jerseys :P
1 -
I cannot agree with you more.
3 -
Best of friends.
3 -
Remember, human rights is politics! Wanting to treat people how they should be treated, how dare we get into that political stuff!
6 -
I see now why you have 13k posts. keep padding those numbers.

Do you have any real arguments or not to add to the discussion ?

I just don't understand why anyone would complain if they don't care. I don't see how it impacts anyone's gaming experience unless you're adverse to LGBT characters. I can understand wanting representation though if you're LGBT, because... Well there's a lot of articles out there floating around the internet about representation so you can look them up. Plus it helps BHVR make money from their queer players since they identify with them, and are more likely to purchase them or buy cosmetics. That's a win-win for everyone, because BHVR needs money to keep the game going.
Personally I didn't care before or now, really. And for the record I'm a member of the LGBT. If people are happy though, yay. If not, then I think I know what your problem is, and I still don't care, lol.

Politics should not be brought up on this forum (or any gaming forum for that matter). All that does is stir up people's emotions (and not in a good way).
All I will say is this: If you don't like what a game is offering then don't buy it. Simple as that.
While I can certainly understand why people think games are becoming political, not all video games are like that. If you don't like political games then start supporting the games that aren't political.

"Trump Derangement Syndrome", a made-up "condition" that's used to dismiss any and all criticism of its namesake.

Thank you, it's nice to know I'm appreciated. Also, I'm a guy, in case you were wondering.

Yes, and I already did. See here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1349610/#Comment_1349610

Empathy is a political thing nowadays, I see.
5 -
The funny thing is it's not actually made up. It's one thing to criticize the POTUS for whatever reason. Every president was criticized during their term. It's another thing to have a full blown aneurysm about everything the POTUS does. The media twists everything to fit their narrative against him, and the Democrats continuously try to find ways to undermine him. The whole impeachment thing was complete nonsense.
I wasn't exactly a fan of having Obama as a president, but I knew it was, at most, 8 years. It's not the end of the world. TDS is very much a real thing for some people. What most people do is not actual criticism, it's straight up temper tantrums.

Wow you did it, have a cookie!

Trump Power: Fake News
It's in front of you, but you don't have to accept it. Any time a survivor gets unhooked or healed, Trump uses his power to refuse it happened. The survivor is immediately rehooked or moved down one health state. This power has no cool down, because that's what the liberals want.
