Friend can't join through free weekend

A person I know downloaded the game recently because of the free weekend, and I can't invite him to my lobby.

I personally own the game, and I can invite friends who have purchased the game.

Is it because he doesn't own the game???

    not sure how consoles do it but pc is normal just invites unless you have it on the microsoft store and he has it on steam then you can't

    We are both on pc and he got it through the steam free weekend

    did you purchase it on steam or microsoft store? if you got it on microsoft store you can't play together as theres no crossplay with invites yet. aside from that make sure they're in the main menu and you have them added and you should be able to invite them to your lobby.

    After both restarting our game, and steam as well, I was able to invite him. I assume it to be a bug and just try restarting your steam/game if you run into the same problem.
