Let's Talk: The New DLC

Scroll to the bottom for the TL;DR version if you'd like, because we have a lot to unpack here.

The Silent Hill DLC is one of Dead by Daylight's better DLCs, in my personal opinion. It brings a lot to the table, but it's got really good features.

Now, I'm not a killer main at all, but I have to say that Pyramid Head (The Executioner) is a unique and somewhat strategic killer that I'd probably use more than other killers I own. The Executioner is a killer that can be really tough to get used to playing at first, but once you get the hang of him he's pretty alright. His power can be easy to dodge, but it's effective when it hits. You're going to have rounds where you get your ass handed to you especially in the very beginning, but you could easily get 4k with him once you get better with him. He isn't really my favorite killer, but he's still very new so perhaps he'll grow on me. I mostly go up against players who play him, but his perks seem decent and like something we've never seen before. Deathbound acts like Infectious Fright, except it has to do with healing survivors. The survivor that's just healed an injured one screams and gives out their location to the killer, but if they stray too far from the survivor they've just healed then they're affected by the Oblivious status effect for a duration of time. Trail of Torment is another unique perk, in my opinion. After kicking a generator, the aura becomes yellow so the survivors get a good idea of the direction you're in, but you gain the Undetectable status effect for the duration of the perk, which is great for sneaking up on them and striking. I've been a victim of this perk so often, I've learned to keep an eye out, although sometimes you just don't see him until it's too late. I think he's one of the more intense killers to go up against, but maybe that's just me. A solid B-tier killer, maybe?

Cheryl Mason is probably my favorite survivor at the moment, being a complete survivor main as stated before. Her perks (Repressed Alliance, Soul Guard, and Blood Pact) are relatively good as well. My personal favorite perk of hers would have to be Repressed Alliance, because although it takes a while (when the perk is still at Tier 1, because you have to have worked on them for ) to actually work up that power, it's very handy if the killer is trying to shoo you away from a generator that's nearly done --- and it's very handy to prevent the usage of Pop Goes the Weasel for thirty seconds. I remember everyone screaming it was too OP when they simply saw the trailer, but I think this is a very balanced perk. Blood Pact isn't bad either, but it isn't one of my favorites. You can see the Obsession's aura when either of you are injured, and when you heal them (or vice versa) you both gain a 7% Haste status effect for a few seconds. I personally don't use this, but I've run into other people who have (I'm usually the Obsession) and it seems like it could be pretty handy if you're going the altruistic route. Soul Guard is another perk that I haven't gotten to dabble with since the PTB (which, I remember the Endurance status effect part of it didn't quite work at the time), but I'm familiar with what it does. Soul Guard is a lower-tier perk, in my opinion. It acts like a mix of Unbreakable and Borrowed Time, because you gain the Endurance status effect for 4/6/8 seconds after being healed for one health state, and during this time any hit that would put you into the dying state will instead Deep Wound you. I like how it isn't too OP because you can ONLY fully recover from the dying state if you've been cursed by a hex, but let's be honest: how often does the killer actually leave you alone long enough, if you do get lucky enough (or should I say unlucky?) to be cursed by a hex for the feature to work?

Despite the fact this DLC has a couple of really good aspects to it, there will always be negative parts to such things in life, and in this case it would be the new map: Midwich Elementary School. The map is far too big and, to someone who might be a first-timer in the map, it's extremely convoluted. The map definitely takes a LOT of getting used to, especially when it comes to locating the stairs to go up and down between the two levels. I've had rounds where people can't get to me/I can't reach the player when they're hooked simply because it's very big and confusing, and it can get quite frustrating. I like how they remain true to the Silent Hill storyline, but I think a little bit of a down-sizing couldn't really hurt. In the middle of a chase with a killer, you're trying to find every avenue to get away from them, so trying to locate a way upstairs to potentially shake 'em off (or just in general, honestly) is very hard for a player that's new to the map. This is one of their biggest maps yet, in my opinion, and it's... working? Definitely a D-tier map, though, as there's many downsides to this particular map. I much prefer just getting one of the other maps over this one when I'm playing the game. The textures are great, the graphics are cool, but it's just too darn big and I've run into a plethora of other players who have said the same thing about it.

With every new update comes a bunch of bugs, and obviously there's been a good handful of those, such as players' perks, add-ons and offerings not being shown after the trial has ended, but this has mostly been noticed with some of the killers and not necessarily the survivors. I'm sure this'll be fixed soon, though.

TL;DR: Executioner is tough to use and very frustrating at first, but hard-hitting yet balanced when you finally get the hang of him. It takes a lot of predicting the survivors' movements to effectively use his ability; he's a very unique killer indeed and can keep you on edge. Repressed Alliance is Cheryl's best perk (PGTW prevention to the max), but she's a solid survivor overall and her other perks are okay despite being lower-tier in my opinion. The new map is far too big with very few ways to travel from the first floor to the second floor, and it's very hard to navigate for somebody who's very new to the map. The textures and graphics of the new map are great, but it's absolutely massive and takes a LOT of getting used to. Overall, the DLC is 8.5/10 on my scale but the new map is about a 2/10.

Map is awesome, nothing wrong with it. There's 4 ways up at the very least, no different than The Game.

I love the map because it's neither Killer nor Survivor sided. Some maps due to size, loops, number of pallet spawns, etc. are incredibly one sided but the new one plays against both sides unless using detection perks, powers, items. Hag makes amazing use of the new map because almost anywhere you put a trap you'll have it triggered but legion is awful on it because of how narrow many sections are making it easier for survivors to juke and interrupt your power. Doc is a little bit in-between, you can find Survivors fairly easily but navigating to them once they scream becomes difficult. Hook spacing becomes a slight issue much like Hawkins where if you down someone behind the wrong wall or among certain obstacles the Survivor will be much more likely to wiggle out. On the Survivor side there are a lot of points to hide, many safe/large loops, and gens are spaced out far enough that you can finish a gen on one floor while the killer is still trying to find their way up. Sabotage makes it so your teammate will almost always escape because of the hook spacing and walls to navigate. This map, while large and mazelike provides so many chances for both sides to succeed but also gives both sides huge opportunities to fail.

ive played like 12 matches and haven't seen the new map so sadface. Ive tried pyramid head around 8 times and got him to lv 50 but my god imo he feels so weak.

Really? Dang, I got it like 5 times yesterday alone lmao, I played it in the PTB so I personally am getting to know my way around a little faster, but I've had teammates DC or just give up in general because people struggle to reach them in time... That was becoming an annoying pattern yesterday :/ It's huge, but hey, to each their own -- you may or may not like it!

Yeah, there's been quite a few people who just DC or give up on that map as well. There's been a lot of mixed reviews on the map, I personally just don't like it in general. Maybe after a while I'll get used to it, maybe they'll tweak it a bit, but at this very moment I'm not a fan either.

True, although The Game is much smaller than Midwich Elementary School. Maybe it'll grow on me because it literally just released yesterday, though. Like I said, it does take time to get used to, so it's just a little frustrating running into a dead end when you're running from the killer, y'know?

On the topic of him feeling too weak, maybe it's just the way he's played/the build being used? I know I've run into some who can absolutely demolish the team, and then those who are more on the weak side. I think he's balanced depending on your play style.
