New Killer - The Novelist

The Novelist is an inventive author, able to distract and hinder Survivors while traversing the map with his power, Book Of Memories. His three perks, Rule Of Three, Writer's Block and Tip Of The Tongue, allow him to distract Survivors after damaging a generator, greatly hinder generator progression after damaging it and decrease the chances a Survivor will escape his grasp when he interrupts their actions.

  • Lore:

Bobby Goldsmith was born in a financially dry time for his family. His father's job as an article writer in the local newspaper was barely able to keep up with the high expenses of living in London. His mother was juggling multiple jobs at once to try helping this, but it only ended up hindering her work ethics, and she ended up usually being fired within the month she was hired. Still though, they truly loved and cared for Bobby, no matter how dire the situation was, and even saved funding for him to get any kind of education they could afford.

Bobby had a fascinating interest in horror stories and literature. The classics like Dracula and Frankenstein spoke to him like a spirit within him. He wrote a few of his own, mostly sticking to cliches he knew would simply work. Every day until the age of 8, he would go to school and spend most of his free time in a library.

After that, the worst possible thing happened. Bobby was being driven home by his father in a beat-up vehicle and a clearly drunk driver was too slow to react and avoid the other car, and both crashed into each other, killing Bobby's father and the drunk man in the other vehicle.

Word spread around the city, along with Bobby's mother. The very next day, as Bobby came home from school, he opened the front door to their flat and heard running water in the bathroom. He stood outside the door and called out to say that he was home, but no response. He waited for a response, but there was nothing. He slowly opened the bathroom door to find her mother dead in the bathtub covered in blood, with a suicide note on the floor next to it. Bobby was distraught and that spirit within him seemed to flicker and die out, leaving him a blank, emotionless slate.

He wrapped a bag up of the remaining food and drinks the house had and wandered the streets and towns, disguised as a short man. He took up a multitude of jobs, primarily a job in the papers or a position for an author. This proved successful, and Bobby slowly built up confidence as he grew and grew in both size and popularity. This could've caused confusion, but Bobby cleared it up by saying that it was simply a lot of exercise that got him back to a large size.

One day, his employer in a random town in Europe was watching the news, and one of the segments was on a revisit to a case in London 10 years ago of a double death and disappearance of the Goldsmith family, it said they never got contact from Bobby Goldsmith, the child of two parents, Jenny and Gary Goldsmith. His employer was shocked when they showed a photo of similar stature to one of his workers.

The employer told the rest of the company about it, and they rallied up a giant crowd to chase this fraud and potential murderer out of town. But before they could, Bobby disappeared, never to be seen again by that town. He sought out refuge in a barn during a cold, rainy night. As he closed his eyes, new, unfamiliar sounds blared into his ears. He snapped his eyes open and saw himself in a dark forest, with a pen-knife in his hand, a book on his belt and the desire to lash out and kill anyone he saw.

  • Perks:

Rule Of Three (unlocked at level 30):

You stick to a common rule when writing, which ends up bleeding into reality.

After damaging a generator, the next time a Survivor starts repairing it, they are greeted with three skill checks in a row. If one of these skill checks is missed, the regression is increased by 100%/150%/200%.

Rule Of Three has a cool-down of 45 seconds.

Writer's Block (unlocked at level 35):

Your lack of inspiration lingers with others.

You become obsessed with one Survivor.

When you damage a generator, that generator is blocked off for every Survivor except for the obsession for 30/45/60 seconds.

Writer's Block then goes on cooldown for 100 seconds.

Tip Of The Tongue (unlocked at level 40):

If you interrupt a Survivor during an action and grab them, their struggling while being carried is slowed down by 20%/25%/30%.

  • Power - Book Of Memories:

The spark of twisting the fears of many folks comes naturally to The Novelist, and with the assistance of The Entity, he can manifest these creations and insert them into reality.

When pressing M2 (or whatever it is on console), you look down at your book and can choose between 1 of 2 stories to write. When chosen, the Novelist spends 4 seconds writing a rough draft for the story.

Story 1 - The Fool's Fright:

The Novelist writes a short story about a boy who gets stuck in a graveyard and is never heard from again.

Writing this story causes 2 zombies to rise from the ground and begin wandering the map for Survivors. If these zombies enter a 16 metre range of a Survivor, they will start chasing the Survivor for 30 seconds. If they enter a 2 metre range of the Survivor, they will swing in the direction of the Survivor, and deal one health state if the attack lands. After 30 seconds of a chase are up, the zombies will fall apart and vanish, and they also additionally will immediately fall apart when stunned by a pallet. These zombies move at 110% movement speed.

Story 2 - The Pale Flower:

The Novelist writes a story about a beautiful lady who wanders the land, giving people who are attracted to her a pale flower. These people who are given a flower seemingly disappear from the face of the planet.

After writing this story, The Novelist drops a flower on the floor and can teleport to the current location of any hook on the map.
