PC (Steam) - Invites wont show in game

Step 1 - Boot the game
Step 2 - Be invited to a match by a friend
Step 3 - Invite shows in steam friends chat, not in game
Step 4 - Shift Tab to open steam overlay and accept invite
Step 5 - Join
Ok so I dont receive invites in game anymore. Since the last patch they only arrive via steam friends and i dont know why. Im being invited in game, while in game. This happens in menus and in the "survivor" solo lobby etc. Doesnt seem to matter where i am in game.
Generally i now have to request to join.
