Gen Tapping
Let's be real, Gen Tapping is one of the stupidest things in the game right now. The fact that Killer's need to spend about 2 seconds or so to cause a generator to regress (if not running ruin), but survivors only need to touch the thing for a fraction of a second to stop this regression is incredibly unbalanced. I had a match just today where I was chasing a survivor, and in the middle of this chase they tapped a gen so fast that it looked like they hadn't even stopped moving. If killers need to invest a few seconds of their time to cause gens to regress, survivors should have to spend a comparable amount of time to stop this regression. I think in order for a generator's progress to stop regressing, survivors should have to spend about two seconds or so repairing the generator.

Let Overcharge be your friend?

Ah yes, I should have to waste a perk slot in order to counteract a game health issue, brilliant.
26 -
I mean if you think it's a waste of a slot, then it must not really have been a problem.
22 -
You know what I mean. I shouldn't have to use a perk slot to counteract a game health issue when I could be running a more powerful perk that would be able to help me more consistently. Just because there are other perks I would rather be running for a myriad of different reasons, it doesn't mean gen tapping is not a problem.

I don't see it as a game health issue for something to take longer for one side than the other. Should survivors and killers move at the same speed? Should survivors suffer the same delay when they swing with their machete and miss?
All of this said, in 1000+ games I've never found myself annoyed at survivors being able to tap the gen. If they're in a chase and they do it, usually they're sacrificing a bit and might lose that chase. If you're far away, it didn't matter anyhow. And if there are multiple survivors right there, then maybe worry about the gen less. A more specific example of where this was unfair or a game health problem would help. And also Overcharge.

The problem with povercharge is that it fdoesnt stop survivors from doing the instaneous animation-less stop to regression, as it's the only skillcheck that can be performed while running.

What do you mean "survivors only need to touch the thing for a friction to stop this regression" ? What regression are we talking about here that can be stopped b gen-tapping ?
0 -
Any regression that isnt Ruin.
4 -
Wait wait wait hold up. So you're telling me that if I damage a generator as a killer and no one touches it, then it keeps on regressing ? :O
7 -
I gave you an example of regression that can be stopped by gen tapping in the third sentence. And yes, it did stop the gens regression.
0 -
Right, but to be fair, there's a considerable risk in tapping a gen mid-chase.
3 -
Regression stopped at the cost of blowing up the gen. setting back regression, and alerting the killer.
Also, I've never gotten it to go quite as quick as it seems on PC as I can do on PS4.
3 -
despite what you may think, tapping a gen does actually significantly slow down a survivor for a second. if it's in the middle of a loop it's enough time to beat them to the pallet if they're close enough
4 -
Correct. Any time a generator is damaged by kicking or with Surge, it regresses at 1/4 the speed of a repairing survivor
0 -
From my experience, if a player is good enough, they can tap the thing so fast that it doesnt even look like they stopped. And if there's a thrown pallet between you and the generator, theres not always a whole lot you can do about that.
1 -
Overcharge doesn't do jack. It's the same skill check as DS (a skill check that survivors have hit a million times before and will continue to hit a million times) and can also be hit telekinetically for no reason in particular.
1 -
There are a lot more people taking this seriously than there should be, so here's the solution: Injure the survivor and THEN kick the gen, so if they do go back to touch it, they will be putting themselves at risk
1 -
For some reason I find gen tapping not so very good, when they try it against me as Killer they seem to lose that edge to reach the pallet in time to not eat a hit (bonus points if they go down since I always have Pop and that gen is going to get it right after the hook).
1 -
Honestly the normal gen regression is so little it’s laughable, I only kick if I have Pop and getting the 25% is enough
0 -
All gen tapping sucks the survivor into the gen, no matter how efficiently they tap, AND it cancel's the survivor's running momentum, so they will need a second to get back to full running speed

Are you new to Dead by Daylight? That’s usually how things work around here.

How strange a person that mains a determined side not being able to see a problem on the opposite one. I am not even going to bother honestly. Some people have the capacity to overcome and use their brains, and others just prefer not to. I get it, abstract thinking is a difficult thing for some (we see it everyday in every other aspect of life so why not in a ######### game as well). Gen tapping is kinda dumb, don't worry I think sooner rather than later it will be tweaked. Probably buffing gen kicking in order to punish survivors for gen tapping. Perhaps instant regresion like pop but only two or three percent.
1 -
Agree. And because DS needs a skill check, survs want a skill check in B&C and PGTW too.
0 -
Then what is the problem?
0 -
Honestly I think it should always be like Overcharge. But if your not running the perk, its just a normal skillcheck and missing it wont cause extra regression. If you hit the skillcheck you can keep working, or you can leave and it wont regress anymore
0 -
They should add an instant normal skill check that has to be succeeded to stop regression.
Boom! Problem fixed! Devs get on it!
0 -
Use ruin. You can't tap the gen if the killer have ruin
0 -
Oh wow! News to me!
0 -
Yeah being able to undo regression by just tapping a gen always seemed silly to me from an immersion and realism perspective. I don't think it would be game breaking to make survivors crouch and enter the repair animation in order to stop regression.
It doesn't need a skill check as we have perks for that.
1 -
Gens should auto regress anyways. This would fix the broken issue you speak of.
Kicking should take another 10% off
0 -
I agree, gen tapping is dumb, and not wanting to sacrifice a much more valuable perk just to run overcharge (which does NOT start the gen regressing) doesn't mean it isn't an issue.
Although, on the topic of overcharge skillchecks, all skillchecks should really continue after youve started moving away. its stupid how often you get skillchecks right as you let go and arent even given the chance to succeed at them.

Its BVHR's favorite way of solving balance issues. Band-aids! There's one for every problem.
0 -
Tapping is fine, especially when you have perks like PGTW that remove 25% of a generators progress that is earned by playing the game normally.
2 -
Someone the other day mentioned that flat buff killers should get is anytime a killer hooks a survivor the next time they kick a gen it will regress 10% instantly which would be nice. I also wouldn't mind it if a killer kicks a gen it's auto blocked by the entity for 20-30 seconds maybe with a cooldown on that ability of the same time.

But that's a choice. It sounds like someone is wanting it both ways is all I'm pointing out.
