Casual and Ranked Modes

I'm sure this has been requested many times but I am finding my survivor games to be quite unenjoyable post cake fix. As a rank 1 survivor I am forced into the sole matchmaking system where rank 1 killers are running pink mori, tunneling survivors, and rushing for 4K games at 5 gens when survivors are trying to farm some. I would like to have the option to be matched with others players who just want to have fun during the event and not ruin it for everyone.

I just had a rank 1 killer tunnel me out of the game in about a minute. 5 cakes on. Events, as much as I love them, bring out the worst in people and it makes me want to play a different game where I don't have to interact with scum. Don't get me wrong, I don't care about living or dying, I care about enjoying a game and earning (yes, earning) some points.

Yes casual online mode would be great where you don't get pips or BP. So no tryhards and we can just have a fun game. Kindof like a KYF match but with randos please. I would play that more than ranked matches any day.

Speaking of kyf itd also be nice if all cosmetics were unlocked for kyf just to see what they look like.

This would split the queue and grossly increase times to get games. And they already said they wouldn't do that. I also don't see a point. Plus, what else would they break if they implemented this? lol

Rank exists as a system to split players based on experience/recent time spent with the game and to provide some light feedback to advise players on how they performed in a trial.

Currently, that former constraint does not seem to be in effect (matching red ranks against low-ranked players pretty regularly) and the community has been having a fit about the poor match experiences that this has been generating. Implementing a Casual mode with no ranks would basically be a green light for this to occur all the time. Many other games that have Ranked and Casual modes have implemented light ranking systems into their casual playlists to improve the average player's experience. Of course, do that to a "casual" mode in DbD and you have... the ranked mode again.

Instead of casual mode, maybe they could add a feature to allow players to populate a custom match? Ie, the Custom Match tab could allow you to "Host" a lobby or "Search" for a lobby with an empty slot (but at least one other player). Allows players like you to be more likely to find others who just want to screw around and enjoy the experience of DbD with a reduced risk of encountering those players hungry to climb the ranked ladder by any means necessary. Better yet, they could even consider adding the ability to gain BP from Custom Matches (maybe at half the rate of public matchmaking) or allowing players to adjust game mechanics (imagine making all characters move at triple speed or fall in slow-motion, as examples).

Basically, I think they SHOULD NOT add a Casual Mode and should instead expand on what's possible with the Custom Match Mode. This could satisfy both those players seeking a more casual party-game experience AND the people who want to see new game modes added.

  • I've been playing this game for a while now but have only ever been able to get 1 or 2 friends to join me and have always wanted to play as the killer against them with a full survivor team which is why I'd love to see a casual mode and since cross play has been implemented it shouldn't affect matchmaking times too much. That said I think it would work best like the Friday the 13th game in that you could party up with friends before the online lobby, choose your killer and survivor and their loadouts and then randomly select 1 killer and 4 survivors from that lobby with an option to set a preference between survivor and killer, you could keep ranks for matchmaking purposes, just don't allow casual play to affect them and minimize blood point rewards to discourage more serious players and farming and encourage truly light and casual gameplay for beginners trying to learn the mechanics and friends just trying to mess around.
