The triangles or maybe arrows in your rank progress are called pip. You gain one based on your performance in the match. Do you see the pips above the rank? If they're full you get the next better rank. A black pip means nothing will change. If you do not get a pip after the match you will lose 1 above your rank symbol. A white pip means you get 1 pip. 2 white pips mean you get 2 pips for your rank progress, obviously.

A pip is a point that counts towards your ranking progression.

For every 4 or 5 Pips you earn in a game you proceed to your next rank.

Pips are based on your performance in a match, and rely on the emblem system.

Losing a pip means you lost. No pips means its pretty much a draw (also referred to as black pip), 1 pip means you won, 2 pips means you were really good in the match and covered all aspects of surviving (escaped (survival), helped out teammates (altruism), worked gens/gates (Objective), and got chased and/or did totems (Boldness) )

Pip stands for "Point In Progress".

In this screen you can see that I need 5 more "pips" in order to rank up to the next rank, and on the bar it shows little notches to indicate how well I have to do to earn a pip.
