why is shadow born a perk?
why isnt there just a fov setting?

Adds a little spice.
Don't know why you would use it though considering Monitor & Abuse is literally just a better version of it

I use to be mad addicted to Shadowborn and it took so much effort for me to become sober from that perk! While I agree BHVR won't do anything about it!

Shadowborn is better than M&A on killers like Huntress and Nurse. On Huntress it basically lets you always hit a hatchet if the survivor is trying to 360 it. With Nurse it helps find survivors (her biggest weakness), and helps see more in fatigue if I'm not mistaken. A lot of people use it a comfort perk though since the game doesn't have FOV options.

don't do shadowborn kids
12 -
The reason they don't have an FOV slider is because then everyone would set it to like max and it would make hiding harder

Go watch Umbra stream, she's more addicted to that perk than I am

If everyone had the option to have permanent shadowborn 3 it would make hiding harder, but literally who cares if it does? Hiding is the most boring and uninteractive playstyle in DbD and does nothing but piss of killers and survivors, and if it's harder because of a change like this then that's a good thing, it SHOULD be difficult to hide from a killer. P3 Claudette is still impossible to see even with shadowborn anyway.

Guys, remember survivors can blind u without u seeing their flashlight.
With Shadowborne, survivors can blind u just by flashing ur ear

Because the devs tried to make FOV a game factor instead of just giving everyone better FOV like every other game in existence, it's a neat idea but poorly executed imo and I truly believe it should be taken out of the game in favor of an actual setting

Disagree, as someone who loves good fov, the limited fov of killers is a balancing thing and it works nicely, it is also one of the least invasive small fovs that I have experienced (I still prefer the release version of killer's camera than what we have now).
Some boosted SWF survivor main complained in this topic that stealth a d hiding is boring, to which I say, eat a poop and go towards a light (in a virtual world, because sjw). People have fun in different ways. Stealth should be more promoted than what extremely boring meta we currently have.

It's a perk designed in 2016. Devs had some wierd ideas then, like offerings to increase or decrease brightness.
1 -
That's your opinion though. I love being a stealthy Jake (and before someone comes with some predictable response, I'm rank 1)

You say the current way the game is played is boring and stealth should be promoted, I'd have to hard disagree playing hide and seek as killer is so boring it makes me want to dc, it's literally why I run whispers and I run shadowborn every once in awhile if I'm feeling nauseous since playing killer without shadowborn for extended periods of time makes me feel like vomitting, but yeah neat gameplay element I guess.

nope, it used to be possible n 2016 and 2017, but they patched it before I even started playing

I'm glad I'm not the only one who literally feels nauseous from playing DbD for too long. And yeah idk why people are complaining about stealth being worse. There's no interaction going on when a survivor is crouching around and generally being useless. Like yes there is a time and place for a bit of stealth and avoiding detection but that kind of stealth will still be easy to pull off even with an extra 15 degrees FOV to killers.
3 -
Not only that but never interacting with the killer is pretty boring on the survivor side too at least for me it is, if game has gone on for too long and I havent been chased I'll just chase the killer down till they decide to chase me.

You know you could always just mention me with an @. instead of calling me a boosted survivor main and tell me why I'm wrong that way ;) But stealth should not be promoted in DbD, imo. If you wanted that kind of experience, single player horror games have that in droves.

Suppose some people might find it funny to play hide and seek with the killer but even that would get old fast. I genuinely don't see what they could gain from being ultra stealthy in a game like DbD, because running a killer is the one part of the game as a survivor where your skill is actually tested against a human player, and it's something you can improve at, which is kind of what a PvP game is all about.

Hell if I know

Dang it, hoped you wouldnt read it! My great plan is now ruined thanks to you!
Honestly, I am on mobile right now, thus I couldnt be arsed to suffer through more than basic editing, thus went eith something more eye catching.
About stealth, dbd was advertised as such back in 2016, before it even released, as. Day 1 player I hunger for stealth, as I find juking and avoiding detection to be much more engaging and fun than looping. To each their own.
But one playstyle shouldnt be nullified because someone finds another one to be more "fun" for them, both should be viable.

Nurse says hi.

I mean stealth is still viable you just need to use it sporadically to confuse the killer but just hiding all the time is so unbelievably boring for both sides but especially killer, I ask you to find a killer main who enjoys going against purely stealth survivors other then yourself, dont know if you are a killer main though

oh yes cause not having any settings to increases fov is good and if you have no 3rd party software changing brightness with freddy playing against claudette is impossible cause everything is dark

Concepts come in go, offerings and perks get changed or shelved when the game gets changed. If they did eventually add an FOV slider to the game than I wouldn't be surprised if M&A and Shadowborne get changed as well. But I feel they never added an FOV slider because of balance or something, I don't know the exact details so that's just a theory.

I think they expected everyone to play with the base setiings without ever trying to change them. That's why brightness offerings were a thing and FOV perks still are.
But adding FOV slider would actually be balanced. Simply because everyone can change it if they want to so noone gets a real competitive advantage here.
As for perks only Shadowborn will have to be reworked. M&A will still be fine as it still has uses with the terror radius shifts (though a buff to compensate is welcome)

When I mean it would be unbalanced or not i'm mostly talking about how one FOV change would be more of an advantage than the others. A lot of Killers like Billy, Nurse, and even Spirit gain a decent advantage when their FOV is increased. If there was an FOV slider than Killers like these would just keep it on the most reasonable settings for their play style. Whether this would ACTUALLY change anything during a chase or not is subjective at best.
I also don't know why brightness offerings existed either, that's something only the devs know to be honest. We can make theories about that yes, but I don't think anyone truly knows why.
Also when I mention M&A I mostly mean the FOV changes when you're in and out of a chase.

Devs are squeezing "features" out of poor game design. :^)

This game lacks so many options that every other game in existence has. Playing with shadowborn on makes the game feel so much smoother and natural to me, and I'd love nothing more than for it to be a settings option.

If only the FOV was the only thing wrong with killer vision?
Remember the eye position adjustment so killers cant peek into lockers? Thats the reason killers cant see crouched survivors right in front of them.
1 -
FOV affects how easily you can see hiding survivors, and although it is barely noticeable, it's still an effect.
The reason Shadowborn exists is to make seeing survivors easier. It made both the map brighter for the killer and the FOV wider. Then the devs decided it was too much trouble to keep having differences in map brightness and scrapped that mechanic, neutering one aspect of Shadowborn (and the downside of Lightborn)

I'd have no problems if FOV increase was added to the game settings, and if Shadowborn was updated to do something completely different (and hopefully useful).
